Sorry for the stupid title.
Supposedly JVC's X'eye has been described as "the cadillac of Genesis/SCD" combos. But just how is it better than the Sega Genesis/CD combo 1 or 2 or Sega CDX? Particularly because CDX is very portable, which would make X-eye seem obsolete.

i prefer my x eye over the cdx because the x eye is compatible with the official sega wireless controllers. also, because it uses only one AC.

I always liked the CDX more just because it's smaller than the X'eye and doesn't take up a lot of space. The CDX also only uses 1 AC too.

Punch me if I'm incorrect, but I heard the x'eye loads sega cd games faster on it due to a faster cd rom drive.

In some cases, it does, although it is a VERY slight improvement; the best thing about the X'Eye is that the CD-Rom drive is extremely quiet.

It has an increased cool facotr since most of the poeple you invite over have never heard of it. Put it next to a Nomad for extra punch...

I had a buddy of mine come over last week, and I had my X'Eye and Nomad (before I sold it) sitting next to eachother. It was great giving him an, albeit brief, history of each system. Also, and maybe this changed w/ the later model Genny's, but the JVC branded controller has a longer cord on it compared to the normal Genny controllers. I would love to get my hands on a second JVC controller just for that purpose.

I've owned 3 (that's THREE) CDX systems and the CD drive has failed on ALL THREE. Two of the systems would reset if jostled slightly. The CDX certainly is a nice piece of equipment but I have found three examples to be unreliable. I got an X'Eye a while back and I haven't touched a CDX since.
The CD drive is slightly faster than that of either Sega CD variant or the CDX. It's nice and solid and won't slide off your coffee table if you or a friend get too involved in a game and jerk the controller cable.
Not to say the CDX isn't great when it's working... so small and convenient

The X'Eye has a bigger cart slot, so it can play Japanese import cartridges (except the later, locked-out ones) out of the box.
I also don't like how CDX's a/v out is on the SIDE of the system.
I have had problems with my CDX's lid not opening/closing properly. I've had to repair it twice.
The X'Eye has slightly improved audio and video hardware, but it's only noticeable on some games and it's not a huge improvement or anything.
The X'Eye also has standard stereo a/v plugs, so it can use just a regular old composite cord rather than a Genny hookup. That can be convenient.
Plus, the X'Eye plays karaoke CDs. KARAOKE! :P
On the other hand, CDX gets points for being compatible with the Power Base Converter without modification. And maybe it's just mine, but I've encountered problems using a 32x with an X'Eye.

vs the JVC X'Eye US/JPN cartridge region mod. ;)

Can easily be modded to do so, take a look at my site.

It depends what you want it for. Do you want to play only Sega CD and Genesis games? Then the X'Eye is superior to the Sega CD/Genesis combo because you don't need to power two systems at once. (The power issue with Sega in that era was always difficult for me.)
If you want to play 32X/32X CD games, forget about the X'Eye; it is not fully compatible to play 32X CD games. Also, the 32X blocks the CD door, which makes changing games a really bitch.
