I just picked this game up and was wondering what anyone had to say about it. I'm usually hard pressed for time and wanted to know if it was worth the investment of 30+ hours. Thanks in advance.

I thought it was very good, but I could never invest the time into it.

I played that game a lot but there's not much I remember about it. It's like Diablo. It has a strange and confusing system for building weapons which I found frustrating. Definitely worth a try.

I picked it up back in April for $2 but didn't play it for too long. It was still the spring semester when I got it and have been working on a few other titles since then so with the little over an hour of gaming put into it for testing and checking it out real fast it wasn't bad at all. Whenever I get that Dreamcast hooked back up to the TV and begin cracking away at beating those games then I'll get the full taste of the game.
As for the 30+ hrs invested part: Was it fun? If you feel it was worth it then it was, otherwise I'm guess you're not sure what you want out of a game. :P

One of my favorite DC titles.
Yes - very much worth it.

Okay here is another question about this game....does anyone know if a strategy guide was ever published for it?

Records came before 8-tracks. You might have a scroll or a parchment of Lodoss war. :)

LOL
Topic had me confused - I didn't realize they made a version of the game for the Dreamcast. I've seen outings of the series on MSX and other 8-bit machines, though :D

While I wouldn't go that far, I will say that it's worth trying if you enjoy a decent ARPG. If you're a fan of the anime, so much the better.

Strangely, I don't remember so much as even the mechanics of the game, but I remember it grabbing my attention long enough for me to finish it. I enjoyed it, at least. Just nothing too memorable.

really? see...cause i kinda hate this game, perhaps i'm just not getting it or something. i like a challengeing game but i get slaughtered so easy in this game. and the fact the enemy can easily get you in a situation and crowd you so you can't hit back. you just get caught in a cycle till you die. maybe i'm just not getting the whole item creation thing and its makeing my character really underpowered.
i don't know, its not a horrible game, i just don't really like it. i do like the name Deedlit though, it just flows off the tounge

I got it a few years ago and found it to be very fun, but nothing that really hooked me, even though it did have an incredible atmosphere. Reading all of the ending praise might be just the motivation I need to finally get through the game.

It's very good, but you need to invest a good couple of hours to understand the weapon levelling system, or you'll get killed about 6 or 7 hours into the game. There's a guide on Gamefaqs which will work.
It's a great game, even though the graphics are (and were) pretty primitive.
I just started playing this game today and I just might play this one to the end. It seems you don't have to know anything at all about the series, so theres no need for me to go watch it. I'll probably never figure out the weapon upgrade crap tho, so I'll just press random buttons and hope for the best.

You will definitely not play it 'til the end then.

It seems I accidently figured everything out, it's really not as complicated as I thought, tho I do think it's kind of redundant. The first big fight would have been impossible without it and would've probably resulted in my ending the games lifespan.

I never found the weapon level up to be overly difficult, just buy the Katana as soon as you can and keep upgrading your critical attacks. I used that weapon for about 85% of the game and it kicked all kinds of ass.

Again, one of the greatest games I've ever played. The combat becomes better once you start upgrading your gear like crazy. I'm missing only one dungeon side quest right now, and I really need to find it. The game's story is also well done, especially some of the awesome stuff at the very end.

I heard they didn't fix the bug in the US and UK versions. There's a part where you go to one of the latter dungeons. If you don't have a certain item (a dragon's head I think) you can't get in. If you go back w/ it later, you still can't get in. O_O
