Ever receive a package in the mail, and not open it til much later?

What was your personal all-time record? Any reason for it? (trip outta town, forgot, etc.)

I don't know if anybody has me beat but today I just opened a package that arrive 3 weeks ago. Yup. Man, I totally forgot about it. I set it aside all that time.

But I dealt with the person multiple times before and I know he wouldn't screw me, so that also added in the comfort level why I didn't open it earlier.

But yeah, I usually open packages sight-on-seen.

Anyone here beat my 3 week record?

I know I wouldn't. When I get a package, I'm usually way too excited to resist opening it as soon as possible. There was one time when I set a package aside and forgot about it until just right before I went to bed, though. I'm guessing that was about 10-12 hours after it arrived in the mail.

Got ot have been my gamecube. I bought it for my own Christmas present in early October 2003, it sat on top of my wardrobe until December 22nd when Animal Crossing came in the post.
I had a nightshift at work coming up & no work to do. I took it to work with me, busted that pack open & spent 12 hours at Animal Crossing and a bit of Ikaruga to keep me awake.

Been a few others like it sat for a few weeks/couple of months, but nothing as exciting as the 'cube, just fodder for the old collection.

About 5 minutes. As soon as I get a package I'm say "ooo...gimmee!" and rip it open.

I open them when i get them. On rare occasions it have been maybe 1-2 hours. When it come to testing the stuff thats in the package it can go weeks and even months.

an hr or two.

My friend got a package from his dad, its been sitting in his hallway for 4 years now. He refuses to open it and it pisses everyone off because we want to know whats inside.

Probably just a few hours. And that's only because I'm asleep and my brother gets the mail and I don't open it until I get up and go to work. I try to stay awake until the mail gets here (I work thirds by the way) but that doesn't always happen hence the above scenario.

Does it smell? Hopefully it wasn't a puppy or food or something like that......or a human head.....

I didn't open a package for about 12 hours once. That's definitely the longest I could go.
It was a big huge box full of 250 empty NES boxes, and there was a girl just about to come over to my house to chill with me.
I knew that if I opened the package, I wouldn't be able to stop myself from finding all the respective games for the boxes I just got, and the girl I had over would just be sitting there.
So I had to wait until later to open it... and it was killing me.

At least girls come before games. :)
I usually open all my packages, right when I get home for 2 reasons: 1) cant wait to open it, like a little kid 2) to make sure nothing is broken and was accurately described.

As soon as I get it.

Sometimes I get too excited and tear the thing itself apart for cleaning, and then neglect to put it back together for a while...that's what happened to my poor x68000 computer (still need to find time to put it back together) LOL

But anyhow, I wouldn't ever leave a package unopened. Need to know if I have to get after the seller, for one.

I sit and wait for the mail man to make his way down the street, as soon as things hit the mailbox I'm out there!

Get them in the house and open them right away!

It's like Christmas each and every day!

Hahah no it doesnt smell, he lets people shake it and try to hold it up to light but you can't tell whats in it.

He isn't fond of his dad, thats why he hasn't opened it.

I think I can beat everyone here.. I have waited over 8 months before. I ordered some stuff while away at school in September, and did not open the packages up till well into May when I got home and got around to opening them...

That was my guess, but i dont understand why he have it in line of sight in his hallway for 4 years. Why not throw it away or stack it in a closet or something?

Uhh...2 minutes while I hunt a knife because it's so incredibly well sealed I can't tear into it?

When I get a package in the mail I rush to the couch and open it. I can usually hear the mailman when he arrives so I go out and grab it the minute my package gets here.

Somewhere between 6 months and a year. The thing broke in transit when I sent it out, so when I got it back after resolving it with the buyer, I just let it sit in the closet.

EDIT - Now that I think about it, I would say it was at least a year.

To piss everyone off that sees it, make every single person curious to know whats in it. Im still dying to know whats in it after all this time. He doesn't live next door to me anymore but I still see him quite often and ask him what is in it or if he opened yet and he just says..."i dont know its still sitting in my hallway".

Im surprised he even brought it with him when he moved...

I once ordered a really awesome thing from Japan as a tech-school graduation gift to myself. I couldn't wait to open it, but I had about three weeks left before I graduated. So I forced myself to stay away from it until then. That was tough, but it was all the sweeter when I did get to open it.

I bought a 'special' saturn, along with a mirage unit to go with it. The mirage got lost in shipping, so i didn't bother to open the saturn until the second box showed up.

Well, the second box never came (lost in the hurricane last year), so i finally remembered the saturn and opened it... The stupid seller had sent it without case screws and the thing fell apart in shipping. Total time, about 8 months.

You would think, but its still got the original tape on it from when he got it. I was there when it came in the mail and asked him what was in it, and he said he didn't know but he would check later.

Later hasn't come yet..

About three weeks or so. Was away.

I'll let packages sit for a few hours now. I open them usually because I have to unpack them and then sell them, so time is money, as the old saying goes.

I used to spend summers in Kansas while living in Florida so probably 2-3 months for those. Normally though, I am all over them. Sometimes though, if I know what's inside I leave it sit for a day or so and it drives my girlfriend nuts

How about how I bought one of the Atari Paddle plug-n-play systems for 5 bucks over a year ago, and just remembered it now that you're mentioning unopened packages? Yes, I know lots of collectors hoard things new in the package, but that's not me -- I'm a rip-it-open-throw-the-box-away-and-start-playing-with-your-new-toy-already kind of person.

If I think I've got a package due, I'll spend the entire morning running to the spare room, looking out for that fabulous red van for about an hour before the postman is due, it's just too exciting!

Once I was opening the package before the postman could ask me to sign for it!

I have a power supply for an Atari XEGS sitting in my garage that remains unopened since it arrived at the house in 2002. Guess I'm not in that big of a hurry.

I still have a Metroid Prime for Gamecube that is still sealed. I got it a few years back but haven't gotten around to playing it.
As for packages, maybe a few weeks and in some cases months when I know what is inside.
