I'm curious what would be the value - or rather how one can put the value on the prototype console. Before launching the companies would make several prototype consoles to iron out any issue - from very early hardware testing model down to the very early pre-production models to work out the bugs..

I'm wondering how one would put the value on one of these? Since these were never meant to be sent outside the company lab I know it's very hard to come by but you do come across when you are at the right place and right time.

Case in point. Sega made handful of Saturn consoles using some of their dev machine motherboards to show around the trade show before Saturn's official launch. Those machines were belong to Sega Japan and upon official release of Saturn in Japan would have been locked up away except one or two from my understanding somehow escaped. Now how much would you put the value on one of these machine? Any guess? ^ ^

probably pretty damn expensive since not many at all were put out there.,

It's hard to say really. I've heard all sorts of prices quoted for stuff like that. It depends on what someone is willing to pay I suppose. For one that's very similar to the original, probably a fair bit less than one that's completely different.

Like all prototypes, they're worth what they can and do sell for. They're worth what people will pay for them.

Moving to classic gaming since nothing is being bought or sold here.

things like this I would think would fall in the same category as other dev consoles, like a ps1 dev console. The proto consoles that would demand a hugh amount would be things that weren't released, like a sega neptune, etc.

Well, look at how much people pay for 3DO M2s. And that's for something with a much smaller fan base.

Does anyone know how much the Power Console controller thingy proto for the SuperGrafx went for? I suppose the PowerConsole and M2s are the best way to even start guaging the potential value of any Nintendo or Sega stuff.

Auction is the best way, but I reckon eBay'd pull the auctions.

But imagine if a Nintendo AVS or the original (minus 3D) Saturn showed up. The sky really would be the limit.....

Does anyone even own any of the original GBA protos that were silver with either blue or orange buttons?

I picked up my proto saturn for $50, but it was in a private transaction.

Honestly people would be suprised how low proto consoles go for, sometimes even going for less then the retail version of the same console.

Your proto saturn would probably go in the neighborhood of $200 in an open auction, i would think.

The only proto I really want is one of the Odyssey 3's that were built for the '83 CES.

Any ideas on a going rate on an O3?

$2500 - $3000 I would say, allthough I got mine cheaper in 1999. But some months ago one was sold and the buyer paid "more than $2000".
