PAL SNES Super Metroid Question

I sold a PAL SNES game Super Metroid on eBay..

You can see clearly the code is SNSP-RI-UKV

The buyer got it today but he says the following " I got the game today, but this is the European PAL version with German/French text which can't be deselected. It's advertised as the UK game. Do you have a genuine UK version we can swap for as I don't want a foreign language cluttering up my screen?"

If the game was a European version wouldnt the code be SNSP-RI-EUR or something like that?

I dont have another so im getting a little worried, I dont really know what the guy is on about.. any PAL SNES gurus out there able to enlighten me?

Well in the NSTC version you can changed many options when you pick a save file to play, including the language. So maybe it's the same with the Pal version?

In all PAL versions, as far as I know, you cannot turn off the French/German translation.

It's extremely irritating, as there's no actual "OFF" selection. It's either French OR German.

For reference, the code on my cartridge is: SNSP-RI-AUS

So even the Australian carts are the same.

Thanks for that, I checked on an emulator and your absolutely right, glad to know im not going bananas :P

Indeed. Im 99% sure that the UKV code doesnt have it. I also doubt that the SCN code have the subs. I checked both my copies, EUR and FAH, and they both have ger/fra subs :( Also, my EUR copy have black boarders, not red like the others.

I have the SCN (Scandinavia) version at home (In its huge big box with nice 80 page map/manual/guide thingy)

And it has forced "extra" French/German subtitles.

I have the UK version with the same code (SNSP-RI-UKV) and didn't remember having any foreign subtitles when I played through it. I thought I'd go check and was surprised to find I in fact had to choose either German or French. However I checked the manual and it says this:


Option Screen - This allows you to select French or German sub-titles for the title sequence; English appears no matter waht you choose. All in-game text is English only.

So it's only for the intro sequence. After that it's all English.

Damn, then i was wrong with 1% hehe :) I was sure i've played it. Maybe i didnt care much about the subs when i tried it and totaly forgot about it. Good to know tho, in case i sell a copy later.
