VERY Similar games. Each person has their preference. I personally choose Phoenix for it is what I grew up on. I didn't play Demon attack for some years down the road. What do you think? Which is better? Why?

Some things to take into consideration

Sound Effects
Re-playability
Controls
Graphics:

Demon Attack - Imagic

Hard choices. I picked Demon Attack because I played that more then Phoenix. I think I owned it longer and played it until I beat the game, eventually it will lock up after the 48th board or somthing. It seemed like forever before Phoenix was released or that I could get a copy of it, by then I moved on to somthing else and never really dove into the game.

Demon Attack is one of my favorite 2600 games - and one of my favorite games of all time so I have to go with that. I honestly haven't played Phoenix much on the 2600, so my vote is probably not very "educated." I did enjoy the arcade version.

Different games. Not to mention 2600 Phoenix came out a lot later.

Demon Attack was really one of the first 2600 (if not THE first for a lot of people) titles that really showed what the 2600 was capable of. It blew everyone away when it came out as it really was the first game that made you think it was almost "arcade-like" :)

Phoenix on the other hand came out much later and was an arcade port. Aside from the "bird" graphic similarities, the games are of a different pedigree. You might as well compare Demon Attack to Galaxian for all it's worth. ;)

So my nod goes to the one who was there first and blew our collective minds: DEMON ATTACK. :D

Both games are among the best graphically for the VCS but I would go with Demon Attack. Phoenix is a bit on the easy side.

I voted for Demon Attack, mostly out of personal prejudice. It was one of the 1st games (the 7th, to be exact) I got for my Atari back in the day. Still love to play it. Rob Furlop even signed my copy of the game at CGE2004 8-) .

Never played Phoenix until after I started collecting. It's got plenty of its own charms. I give it credit over Demon Attack for having a boss level.

That may be the reason I like it more. Getting to that mothership is pretty friggin' cool.

I understand Demon Attack Blew everyone away at the time, and that Phoenix came out much later, but in terms of Fun Factor and replayability I always go back to Phoenix. As mentioned above, it could be because it's easier, the boss level, or the fact I had that and not Demon Attack as a kid.

Demon Attack = <3

I played it a LOT growing up, and I played it a lot at CGE04. I had to have played one game for a good 2 hours straight.

I've played Phoenix int he arcades, but not on the 2600. Even still, I'm not that much of a fan of it.

I chose Phoenix, it's one of the games I played to death as a kid on the Atari 2600. 8-)

I chose Phoenix. As a kid I used to love Phoenix in the arcades and naturally played it on the Atari when it become available.

Enjoyed both games but Phoenix has the edge because it has a (very) little more variety than Demon Attack.
