Chatting to a mate up ye olde Tavern, and it turns out he has a Sega Action Chair (http://www.old-computers.com/museum/hardware.asp?t=1&c=837&st=2) in his attic. I can't beleive I've actually found someone who has one of these!! Anyway, he says he might have the box for it flatpacked away too.
So how much is one of these worth loose and with box?
Cheers
EDIT - I've checked completed listings on eBay, and I can't even find one ever being sold (unless I'm being useless).
So, any Megadrive collectors have any idea of rarity/value?

No idea, but I'd pay up to $50 for it, which means it's worth more than $50. :)

Yeah, I had one for a while.
It's pretty fun. Especially trying to play completely unsuitable games with it :)
Rarity - pretty damn rare.
Value - not much actually. Because it's so dang heavy, it costs a bomb to post, which tends to put a lot of people off it would seem. That's if you can actually find somewhere that will post it. When I say heavy, I mean real heavy.
I sold mine (loose, but with instructions) for about $50 in the end.

I look at that chair and ask myself one thing:
"Why?"

I can only imagine playing something like Block Out or Street Fighter on that thing. Hah!!! LOL

I don't know about the Genesis version, but the NES version sold new-in-box for around 60$ I believe around a year ago on eBay, after being relisted (didn't sell the first time for 50$). As stated earlier, I'm sure shipping took a great part in that (shipping to me was between 110-150$!!).

Between $100-200?
The 'Sega Action Chair' is a rare item. Connected to a Genesis/Megadrive, it acts as a controller! When you lean backward/forward it tells the Genesis to go down/up and when you lean left/right it tells to go left/right. Two handles on each side offer two buttons each, resulting in 4 buttons : START, SELECT, A & B.
The Action Chair is basically a chair mounted on a controller. It is thus possible to play all games with it, though it is more convenient to play games like After Burner II, Space Harrier II, Super Thunder Blade, Hang on, Road Rash, Super Monaco GP, etc..

i found one of these chairs today, set me back $45, but its like new.
given the buttons, it seems more intended for use with a master system, not a genesis. the art on the manual(shown in the link higher up this thread) looks master system era too. anyone have further details?

Master System era, you say? Very interesting...I didn't think the SMS had any of these types of accessories.
Is this particular model 1st-party? Or not?

i have no basis to guess master system, it just seems theyd find a way to add a third button if it was meant solely for genesis use...there are only four buttons on this thing - start, select, A and B.
EDIT (while in progress)
the link showed a "SEGA" manual...
EDIT(again, while in progress)
upon looking over this chair more closely, there is no mention of 'SEGA' on the seat or metal components - i expected to see a big logo - but the chip(under the seat) says "SEGA GEN". curious.
this is basically like an arcade style stick(with four spring loaded actuators) and a post on the bottom of the chair. lean, it depresses a spring to activate the control.
seems a really stupid concept. more like something your grandmother would buy you for a gift...the present you go 'gee, thanks gram' and then your mom makes you open and try it out so you cant take it back. this ones certainly not seen much use. i wonder what this retailed for new?
