Hi,

I am thinking of selling all my pre 1985 collection and I plan to collect all the US games for either the 3DO or the Saturn.

I would like to collect Dreamcast, since it is my favorite console, but I am waiting for the prices to get a little lower.

The 3DO has few games to collect, and it is not that well known, but most of the games suck.

The Sega Saturn has more games to collect than the 3DO, it is more common, and most of the games are great.

What do you guys think?

I want to really look it over, so I dont get halfway into it and get sick of it.

Thanks

If you plan on playing the games, go for Saturn. The DC prices will eventually climb, but so are the prices for rare Saturn games. I got my copy of Saga for $55, now it's $200.

Go for the Saturn, there may be more games, but it means you can be in the hunt for longer! Besides, Pazner Dragoon, Die Hard Arcade, Sonic R, NiGHTs, Virtua Fighter, Fighters Megamix, there are a lot of cool titles for the Saturn.

I can't think of a single reason (other than completism) to collect US 3DO. There are some good games (Return Fire, Star Control 2, to name 2) but alot of FMV junk.

Saturn is where it's at. DC is great, too. I collect DC more than Saturn, myself, but i'd go for either of those over 3DO anyday. If you get 3DO, just get the good games. I don't think prices will climb on those like they will on DC and Saturn.

Saturn, good US release games and if you want to import, the number of good games gets even better!

The US 3DO games were mostly crap and like the guy above me said, Return Fire and Start Control 2 are few of the titles to actually buy on the 3DO

Definately saturn, over 240+ U.S games, some good some bad, but more good than bad. I agree with most of the posts above, there are lots of good games for the saturn, and they should be relatively cheap. So go saturn, go!

Why not just collect it all- wait until you find the good deals.
I got a 3DO for next to nothing and then aquired a few games that I enjoy- Cannon Fodder is quite fun!
I got my Saturn with 49 games for 150$ then sold off 15 games to almost pay for the entire package.
The Dreamcast is AWESOME- best Sega console ever- years ahead of the competition- and I am a die hard Nintendo fanatic. There again, just buy everything when the price is right.

Why pass up any of it? It will eventually come around. Just don't feel the need to have it ALL ( a whole collection) in an unreasonable amount of time. Rome wasn't built in a day....

I got a better idea, if you love porno, get the 3DO since they're some porn games for it. :P

Are you trying to complete a system at a fairly low price or collect a system that will cost more but ultimately prove more satisfying? Answer yes to the former and it's 3DO you want. Answer yes to the latter and it's Saturn. It's that easy.

3DO is cheap overall and makes for a nice conversation piece. Saturn will cost you significant bucks but at least you'll have lots of great games to play.

Don't get me wrong. I do enjoy my 3DO. It's got a much worse rap than it deserves, but overall there's no disputing the quality of the Saturn library.

I always point prospective 3DO collectors to this thread:

I personally am collecting for saturn myself. I like the games for it and there are many original titles for the system. I also own a 3dO and close to 50 games for it. I can personally say I like saturn better. But the 3do is something i had since i was younger so it has the nostalgic value to it (for me). I say go with saturn, even though it'll cost you more in the long run. But I will admit that the 3DO itself is unique. I will defend the 3do till the day i die.

you'll get more from saturn, but also if you say the dreamcast is your favorite console, I'd say go dreamcast as the prices are pretty cheap atm, and you can get the majority of the tough ones out of the way at a decent price.

The Saturn is a great console loaded with classics.

The Dreamcast just begs to be collected for.

I say collect for both of these consoles. Just pace yourself and get games here and there so your wallet doesn't feel as much pain.

The Saturn has a much better library of games in terms of quality, it's not even a contest, but the 3DO is alot better than most people think. Most people don't have any idea that the best version of both Wolfenstein and Out of this World reside on the 3DO. I'm serious. For anybody that has never played Wolfenstein or OOTW on the 3DO, do so now, you won't be dissapointed. Easily the best versions on any console.

The 3DO just doesn't get much respect, and it's very easy for people to trash on it, but I really think the 3DO is a very interesting system. For those of us that were lucky enough to play it in late 93 and during 94, the 3DO was absolutely state of the art at that time. Once the Playstation and Saturn arrived, the 3DO was pretty much quickly forgotten about and lost in the shuffle, but it was a decent system. The biggest problem with the 3DO, is the number of total crap games, released to the number of good games. There is an awful lot of crap on the 3DO. But there are some great 3DO games that don't get lots of pub, and it might be enjoyable to collect for it, especially to discover oddball games that you never knew about.

Of course, the Saturn is a dream of dreams, and if you limit yourself to U.S. only releases, then you won't necessarily go into bankrupcy. Saturn is definitely one of my all time favorites, so many classic games. So many great shooters. I would probably go with the Saturn, but don't take alot of the 3DO bashing seriously, I doubt the people that are bashing it have played all the good 3DO games that came along, and I seriously doubt they played the 3DO in 1993 or 1994. They probably discovered the 3DO when it was on it's death bed, and at that point it looked like a crappy system, but during it's first two years of existence, it wasn't a bad machine at all.

3DO for sure! I mean, where else can you play such classics as 'Plumbers Don't Wear Ties'? LOL

Given the choice, I'd collect for the Saturn. The better games are definitely there (especially some of the import stuff, if you choose to go that route).

I appreciate the inputs guys,

I already have a complete 3DO with aobut 10 Complete games. I think I will just stick to buying games I reallly want to play.

Now, to Dreamcast verses Saturn.

I never played a Saturn until recently when I bought one off ebay. It has alot of my favorite games for it, like Rampage, Area 51, Virtua Cop and etc.

I think I like the Saturn and Dreamcast equal.

So. it comes down to collecting all the US titles on one, and just picking up favorites for the other.

The Dreamcast has alot going for it because:
It is more common, so I would find it at yard sales.
Since it recently died, the prices are lower.
People say the prices are at rock bottom.
It has great games.

I think that is alot going for it, but I will access the Saturn.

It has great games that I like.

It looks like the Dreamcast won, but I want other peoples opinion on this post.

Thanks for your inputs guys, I appreciate it.

To play Super Street Fighter II Turbo for 3DO, is to love 3DO.

Saturn may have good games, but price may be the killer period for some. I have just recently been looking into the games, and well, it depends on your collecting methods, interest and available income.

For space reasons alone, the Dreamcast wins. Smaller game cases means more room for games.

Yes, Dreamcast games are 1/4 the size of Saturn games(including the height)

I would go with the Dreamcast library not only becuase it's great but becuase you can still find the games in the wild more often then the Saturn. It's a little easier to collect for and more fun if your the type of gamer that likes to go and hunt for stuff.

I chose Dreamcast because Dreamcast stuff is dirt cheap now. At least around here. There's deals to be had! You can start a great collection of DC stuff for ~100. In my local market Saturns and Saturn games are much more rare, and much more expensive :(

I wish I never sold mine! I had loads of great games and accessories.
