I've never played the system, so I have no idea. Is the playing side of the Madden 2000 CD supposed to be black? I've never seen that with any CD (or DVD), so I'm wondering if this is playable.

Thanks,

All PS1 discs are black on the bottom.

As already posted, yes. All PlayStation games are black. Sony did this so pirated games could be spotted more easily, since they'ed be on standard silver CDR discs.

In the PSX's hey day, copying games was so rampant that several CDR companies actually started making black bottom CDRs, much to Sony's dismay.

Once in a blue moon you'll come across a PSX game that's more purplish than black, like a PS2 disc. As long as it has all the legit markings on it. You're good to go. :D

Thanks! My most modern systems are the SNES and Duo, which puts me well behind the masses. I promised a co-worker I'd buy an XBOX in 2010. How far will I be behind then?

Hehe i remember these (even got 20 of them). I doubt they where made because of piracy tho :P From what i read the black discs were easier on the laser.

They also have a higher quality when recording MP3's to them, just FYI! :D

Those purple discs from what I can see are for Platinum titles mostly, in the later stages.
