Ogre battle 64 has got to be the worst Srpg of all time. (If you can even call it an SRPG). I don't want to rant on and on about why I think It's such a bad game, but I want to know why people liked it so much.

So if you can post your reasons for liking it if you did.

There's not exactly... umm... any competition on the 64.

Yes, but there isn't any competition for skydiving games on the psone yet the only one they have sucks.

Did you enjoy Ogre Battle: March of the Black Queen for the SNES/PS1?

The Ogre Battle games aren't your typical Tactical RPG/SRPG. If you want them, you better find the Tactics Ogre titles.

Yes I've heard of Tactics ogre, and that seems more up my alley, but I really can't see how anyone enjoys Ogre Battle. You can't double team enemies or anything so the whole Real time stratedgy thing is not really true.

It just doesn't seem like a complete game.

I personally love OB64. Sure, the actual influence you have in battle is slim, but the real challenge is in how you set up your characters on the grid, how you equip them, etc. It's OCD micromanagement at its finest. Actually I felt like I spent more time going through my characters stats and swapping/ upgrading weapons between levels than actually playing the levels themselves; I found this fun but I guess I can see where others would find it tedious. Going back to old maps to hunt for cool characters to recruit was addictive on a Pokemon like scale (goddmmit I want my hellhound!!!!). I'm an RTS fanatic so I enjoyed the overworld interface too. And last but not least the graphics and sound are very nice and artfully done. One of my only gripes with the game is that it was too short, I felt like it ended right as I hit my stride. One of these days I'll play it again and try to get a different ending. OB64 for the win.

I regret selling my copy back in 2000. It's one of the best strategy games out there. Trust me , when you get your hands on it you'll see why.

I picked up Ogre Battle 64 and I didn't really like it that much either. Maybe its because i just didn't take the time to figure out how to play it. But i just stacked it up in my N64 collection in case I want to come back to it some other time.

Really all you can do is equip items and then hope you get lucky during battles, You can't directly effect them at all. It's like watching a shitty movie. Tho, the graphics and sound were top notch, I can never just hand it to a game on that alone.

I thought the only problem with the game was that there were too many exploitable glitches. Other than that, I have loved it every time I've played it. The replay value is great because you can't get all of the secret characters in one playthrough. Some are one or the other.

But what are you actually playing? Chess has more player control than this game.

Theres more to it than that. If thats all you did, I can see why you didn't like it. Thats like Playing Tactics, and not leveling up. Your gonna get pwned at the next boss battle period.

What actually is the strategic user input part of the game? Equipping different items and moving your guys around a 3 x 3 square?

The actual character move at a bonechillingly slow pace, and nothing happens in real time.
