I thought I was crazy but other people do like this game. I was subjected to being mocked by assholes who prefer Marvel Nemesis to this.
Who else?

Gyruss is pretty well loved among fans of classic gaming I think. I enjoyed the arcade game and the home ports. The NES version is cool too although I think of it more as a remake or a sequel than the same game.

One of my favorite arcade games of all time. And who would compare Gyruss to Marvel Nemesis?

Not compare, just "hate and prefer".

Gyruss rocks out with it's cock out. :rocker: I just had that cool techno theme in my head today (I know it's a classical piece, but I had the actual theme tumbling about).
I don't see how anybody can knock Gyruss, especially the arcade version.

Gyruss was my favorate game on the atari 2600, I thought it was incredibly deep for a 2600 game.
the nes version was amazingly well done with all the bosses and stuff.

I loved playing Gyruss in the arcade back in the day The soundtrack always pumped me up. However I'm still trying to understand this quote. What does Marvel Nemesis have to do with Gyruss? :?

Bach's Toccata & Fugue in D Minor.

I haven't really gotten into Gyruss. I love Juno First though.
Actually, I've got an old Konami soundtrack that has selections from both games coming from eBay.
As for Marvel Nemesis...looks interesting, but it's not even an arcade game. Oh well.

You can dance to a Gyruss-inspired mix on DDR Ultramix 2 for XBox. (off-topic, the best video-game imho inspired mix on DDR is AKUMAJO DRACULA MEDLEY on Ultramix 3...get it for your .mp3 player if you can find it).

As of right now, Gyruss is one of my top 10 favorite NES games that I actually own. Of course, I only own 70 NES games right now, so this is subject to change. I'll still like it anyway, though. It's great for picking up to blast time away.
Plus, I love the remix of Toccata and Fugue.

As a kid I thought Gyruss for NES was impossible to beat without cheats. I used to get to the fourth planet or so before I died. But the more I played it with the 30 lives cheat, the better I got at it. I'm pretty sure I got to the second to last world once without the cheat. I really wish I got to beat that game without it, but at least I know that it's possible now without it. I couldn't imagine getting my Gyruss skills that up to par again, though. I probably totally suck at it now. Can anyone actually beat it without the cheat?

Yes, Gyruss indeed. I'm currently in the process of purchasing a copy for 2600. One of the finest arcade games of the 80's, in my opinion.

Well,
I am happy to say I spent 2 hours playing an arcade Gyruss when I was on vacation last week. The gameroom at the campground we were staying at had one and the guy taking the money out clicked a dozen credits up on the machine for me and my kids. They lost interest pretty quick but I didn't. Back when it came out it was the music that made it stand out.
I have the Konami arcade GBA game. I have the Gameboy AVP that lets me play it on my gamecube. Between Gyruss and Time Pilot I'm set.

I've never played the arcade version, but the NES title is a blast. I don't see how anyone could knock this game. old-school rail shooters rock!

I played it first on the C-64. I think its is a better port, but my memory could be wrong...
Likely your friends are younger than this game. The evolution of a gamer goes through a stage where graphics are the 'almighty' and gameplay is forgottten. Likely your 'friends' are simply in gamer puberty...
Try getting them to play time pilot next...

There was my NES set up with Gyruss. The people I was hanging with disliked it. Then I was forced to play Nemesis. I am open minded, but that game has little redeeming qualities.
