I got to admit, of all the Atari consoles I own, the Atari XE computer is by far my favorite. It's graphics are just so crisp and clean; it just brings a smile to my face every time I turn it on.

Sure it's the 400's younger, hipper cousin, but I just love the thing. Anyone else admire this slick machine? I realize I've never talked about it before, but recently I made a new film titled "Missile Command" and it starred the one and only system. Playing it again reminded me of some good times when I first purchased the machine.

i didnt have the XE, just the 800xl, but i can tell you that was one of the best machines ive ever used.. its one of my favorite 3- the games are awesome, and with the disk and tape drive you have so many games to play.. i remember the day that i read a computing magaine and it had a program to play cassettes on your tape drive... i listened to a lot of metallica that year over a 1" monitor speaker.
that machine is incredible

Is it expensive or hard to collect for?

not expensive at all and not too hard to collect for (if you only want the fun games)
a 800xl computer with hookups usually runs maybe 30$ or so?
the fun carts are all really cheap

I just got a 400 that's clean enough to have been in a museum for 20+ years. Still haven't gotten any games for it, sadly. If anyone wants to ditch some commons, gimme a shout - I've got nothing for this machine. :/

I used to have the XE myself. Crime Busters was one my fav titles for it.

I really like my XE too. I think a lot of people don't realize how nice some of those 8-bit games look and play. The carts are quite easy to come by and overall not too expensive. The XE has that cool 80s styling (very unique design). For the most part, I don't even have the keyboard hooked up as most carts don't require it. Another nice feature of the XE is that it has a standard composite a/v output. I have an 800xl too but I prefer the XE.

Yes, the XE and it's video output are what make all the difference for me. The quality of some of the games is just outstanding. Congo Bongo for instance is a classic title for the system.

Thanks for the reminder congobongo!
