I finally bit the bullet and bought an SP and I'm just wondering how durable it is.
Anybody have any stories about dropping theirs out of a window or running it through the washing machine by mistake? :)

I played mine hundreds of hours and dropped it countless times out of my car/pocket/whatever. The edges are banged up pretty badly, but it still works fine.

I've found Nintendo systems to be pretty durable. I'd say the orginal brick gameboy and the N64 are the two most durable game systems ever made. I remeber old stories in NP about people dropping brick GBs from four + stories up and having them not brake.

It's clamshell design makes it much more durable and able to take a lot more damage then say the original. Just don't go throwing it at a wall or something and you'll be fine.

It's insanely durable. You really have to do something awful to break it.

I accidentally ate mine once. I was just real careful about checking the bowl before I flushed, and sure enough, it turned up sooner or later. Rinsed it off in the sink and let it dry, and now it works better than ever!

Well what I did wasn't exactly awful.. and it broke. But I guess there's always exceptions to anything :)

Yes. I put mine in the washing machine, but it was only for about 30 seconds once I realized it was still in the pocket of a pair of pants. It was fully soaked though. All I did was take the cart out, took the battery out, and set it to dry for 3 days, just to be sure. Everything worked fine. (Although, later the cart WarioWare deleted all my saves, but thats just because the battery on the SP died while I was playing.)

My first (launch) SP was funky out of the box. The D-Pad didn't wanna not have Samus run without looking down. Otherwise my replacement SP (2 days post launch) has been just fine and played many countless hours, despite being scuffed some and transported all over the country.
