Just another reason why I ain't going to buy this at launch.

Question: Is that the production controller? Thats the only controller Ive seen. It looks like it would be hard to hold.

Is there much to discuss, Manimal?

This news won't affect the price in the short-term. And we already knew that the PlayStation 3 would be expensive for both Sony (to manufacture) and the consumer (to buy).

I guess I don't really see what there is to discuss, either. If Sony bleeds money for the next 3 years on the PS3 that's their own fault, and their shareholders' fault for allowing management to continue on an unprofitable course.

But for a gamer? I just care how much the console and games are, and how good they are.

Dont quote me on this, but I'm pretty positive that they redesigned the dual-shock 3 since that boomerang shape. It's basically the DualShock 2, same shape and button layout.

Don't think this will effect the launch price, pretty much these articles are just saying sony is gonna hemorage more money than they thought they would. Bad for sony, but not really a change to the consumer. I was more intrigued that Microsoft has actually got a hand to pay in this. If they make a good system bundle or price drop, they have a chance to kick sony while they're down.

I fully expect Microsoft to drop the price of both the Premium and Core packages by $50 this upcoming Holiday Season. I will be quite shocked if Thanksgiving 2006 comes and goes, and the 360 is still priced at $399 and $299 respectively. I fully expect them to be $349 and $249. I think the $249 price for the core system is especially key, because regardless of Nintendo's final price for the Wii, this puts the 360 core system as a viable option for a potential Wii owner. Somebody that happens to have $250 to buy a Wii, now has to think long and hard about whether or not they don't want a core 360 system instead. Especially considering Gears of War and other big time 2nd generation 360 games will be available for purchase at the same time.

Many people will say that it makes no sense whatsoever for Microsoft to lower their price, "Why should they lower their price now, they have no need to do that". I beg to differ. It's kinda like a boxer that has just delivered a huge uppercut to their opponent. Their opponent is dizzy and disoriented, and when you are in a situation like this, you should simply go for the kill. Get it over with. A $50 price drop, while not necessary in the least, could be the critical blow, that could ultimately decide the console wars THIS XMAS. Especially if Microsoft can keep the supply channel fully stocked all througout the holiday season.

.

I agree with your strategy but there was an article on ign saying something about how a price drop before 07 was ruled out by a microsoft exec, but that a bundle would be likely...
