Hi all, I have an NES that I picked up at a thrift store that I am having some serious problems with. I have opened it up and cleaned the connector extensively, but I am not sure if that is a problem.

Whenever I try to load a game it either stays black, goes to a blue/green screen, or plays the intro to the game for 1 second then glitches and freezes with a tone playing.

If anyone has any ideas for me to troubleshoot this thing I would appreciate it.

Also, if it is not fixable, if anyone is selling a reliable NES please PM me with an offer.

Thank you for your help in advance.

Most of the conflict, for me at least, is dirt in the game cart itself. SInce you are getting a partial picture sometimes, I would say that is the case. Make sure to clean the cart contacts completely. Sometimes you also need to wiggle the cart when it is locked down and reset it.

I just tried it again, cleaned out my copy of Blaster Master with a cotton swab and alcohol. I powered it on and off, reset, and pulled it in and out several times but couldn't get it to change from the black screen.

Did you try bending the pins back to their original position? This usually works, but a new 72 pin conector will work a lot better, they are made with better metals now a days.

Or you could disable the lock out chip, I was leary of doing this, but it actually does work.

What is the lockout chip?

Videogamedaryll would be the man you need to talk to about fixing NES system. He's helped me lord knows how many times with the toaster models.

You could also consult the DP Knowledge base. :D

I checked the knowledge base and followed all their instructions on cleaning the system, but it still doesn't seem to want to work.
