Atari: Nothing until 2007. (http://www.gamesindustry.biz/content_page.php?aid=18712)

SNK: Nothing until 2009. (http://www.gamesindustry.biz/content_page.php?aid=18699)

They might not publish a gi-normous amount of games like Activision, Ubisoft, or EA, but it's gotta say something when they both cite high price as a reason for holding off. Especially SNK. Three to four years? Yikes.

EDIT: Adjusted topic title to reflect Atari's publication-only business model and the fact that SNK really isn't 'big' outside hardcore circles such as this. :)

"Should we publish crap games or should we make crap games?"

Quite the conundrum.

As much as I love them myself and as much as I know they're loved by the hardcore gaming community, I think it's sort of a stretch to call SNK a major company these days. They're pretty niche at best, and pretty much have been since the early 90's.

That said, I'm very much looking forward to their upcoming Wii and DS releases.

Also, I'm pretty sure SNK's delay is, at least partly, some form of 'revenge' from SCEA being so hard on them as a developer of (mostly) 2D games.

To bad Working Designs isn't around to poke their finger in Sony's eye, and bring some sweet games to the Wii.

more like "STAY IN BUSINESS...OR PAY OFF THE CREDITORS?"

Well, I'm sure Sony's shaking in their boots at this announcement. Sony and SNK haven't done very well together recently anyway, though you'd think an online distribution system would be reason enough for SNK to jump on the PS3 system....

Definitely a marriage of convenience. That was back when things were almost looking up for Atari, though.

Nope. That is not the case at all. Sony is trying to get as many games coming out on the Playstation 2 as possible to extend it's longevity in the market. They are lightening their restrictions on 2D games in North America.

Instead of SNK dumping money into developing next-gen games, they are working on bringing more arcade goods to the Playstation 2 in the US. We are supposed to get one of the KOF Collections, as well as some Samurai Shodown, Garou, and more.

With all of these releases, Raiden III, Red Star, and the new collections from Taito, Sega, and Capcom on the way; PS2 owners are going to have an orgy of arcade goodness coming. Since these are my favorite types of games, I am more giddy about this than any next gen system.

I'll second that!!
What a difference a (almost) year makes!
The industry travels faster than the speed of light.

"Nothing until 2007" isn't a big deal at all, considering it's currently mid-2006 and the system still isn't out yet. All that means is that they won't put out a launch game.
