last nite i was discussing the current genesis collecting scene with clubninja, we were talking how funco is blowing them out now and the supply is dwindling. i was thinking about how i'd ever get to 400 carts without them, then it occured to me, just how many titles are there? what percentage of those titles are sports games? i couldnt even find a decent gen. FAQ online dammit!

i'm guessing at least 1/3 of the games are sports titles, maybe more. by sports i mean all sports including boxing, olympics, mutant leauge, pool, wrestling.

take a stab at it!

bonus question- how many are those damn long shelled yellow tabbed EA carts?

The DP Genesis list is online and tells you how many titles there are at the end of each section.

Sports titles someone will have to add up, I'm not doin' it!

Because I'm so damn exciting of a person, I'll do that when I get home. In fact, in super motivation mode, I'll get whatever breakdowns I can get.

christian, along with you, I'd like to thank Funco for a good 200 titles. Now if they just kept the damn boxes!

And the PDF says there are 719 titles, pending proof of a few titles existences (Itchy, Barbie Vacation).

yup. dp here says 711 total. I quick counted approx 170 sports titles -that's roughly 24%. ** I did not count any racing games --that would easily make this number soar** Christian -the local gamestops so far have just been consolidating the stock to fewer locations. Keir is the guy that really knows where they are. My finds are Saugus,Brockton, Natick, and Warwick RI still have plenty. I think Dorchester, Hanover, and Attleboro also still have games. Pawn is the future my friend --- and then unfortunately the a-holes like FallRiver Bob and Worldwide Rip-Off. --long live NECG!!

oh yeah -almost forgot --- www.genesiscollective.com is the best site i've found -huge listing, reviews and cheat codes.

well for the record on our local gamestops, i pretty much cleaned out medford on monday and dorc. last week. nothing but friggin desert strike and PGA tour left :) todays target- braintree, as soon as this snow stops.

i would count racing if its based on a real race like indy or nascar but not if its like f-zero. same with fishing and other semi-sports. anything based on a REAL world event has to count. but so should stupid stuff like that rap basketball game, on the other hand i would not count michael jordon's trouble in the windy city...

Don't waste your time at Braintree -if anything is left they only have a handful --Hanover may be better (but you gotta deal with "ye olde book of games" ) either way your following in Keir's footsteps. Also I don't think it's gonna stop snowing. I have another secret location -but I can't reveal it yet-gotta go back once more first. :)

Yeah, seriously. Even if it was sunny it wouldn't be worth it to go to Braintree. However, I left a lot of good stuff at Hanover. I've been meaning to go back but haven't had the time.

I'm still tempted to pick up that Math Blaster ep 1..

Anyhow here in NJ this cheap cd place in the mall near me, Compact Discounts, has started allowing people to trade back old NES, Gen and SNES carts for store credit. I haven't seen any if any have been returned yet.

To answer your question:

688 Attack Sub - Made by EA, released by Sega - Normal cart!

Ok.

If there is a * before for the name, I cannot personally confirm that a yellow tab version exists for I don't have it. I have listed it, because it was made by EA, and it makes sense to be ywllow tabbed. The only game I can think would logically not have a yellow tab is Counting Cafe, due to its box.

If there is a + in front of it, I can confirm that it comes in a cardboard box. Keep in mind that a plastic shell may exist for the game; one instance of this is Bulls vs Lakers.

Accolade/Ballistic Cardboard Boxes/Bigger Carts

If there's a *, I can confirm the game comes in a plastic box. It *may* have a cardboard box version. The opposite applies for unstarred games - I can confirm they come in cardboard boxes, but they may have a plastic box version. Winter Challenge and Shut Up & Jam 2 is the only game I cannot confirm, not having the box for either.

I may have missed an Acc/Ball game or two, feel free to post em.

Accolade/Ballistic:
*Ballz 3-D
*Barkley Shut Up & Jam!
Bakrley Shut Up & Jam! 2
*Brett Hull Hockey '95

*Combat Cars

Regarding the sports ratio on the Genesis, I calculated 29% myself - awfully close to that 28% Mike got.

Oh, and leave the Natick Funco to me, brother! ; ) My Genny games! I leave all the Boston-area locales to the rest of ya, hehe.

Skitchin' was an EA game that had the yellow tab

What was the point of those? Just to make then look different?
