My psp had a smudge so i cleaned it with a rag and it broke... Dude... dude,., dude!!!! I mean I cant believe it , just cleaning it with a wet rag?
I was playing guility gear x 2 on it then It started going black on the screen , the menu button doesnt work the volume neither , the screen turns off and on but still plays the game. the thing is a 200 buck landmine
I have cleaned a ds with a rag before 100 percent working. And I have i had a gba game go in the washer works 100 percent still to this day.

Ehhh, using a wet rag would increase the chances of water dripping into the hardware. I don't see how that would be a logical way to clean the system from the start.
It would be better to use a damp napkin for the screen, and then q-tips for around the controls.

Eh if sony ever wanted to copy their competition why dont they try copying the durability of their competitions console.

"hey..this stopped functioning"

from past post its not the water that kills the electronices, we know that its the turning on of the machine whil moisture is still inside that fries it most of the time. So best bet would be not to turn it on again for a week and then just maybe it will be better.

Eh if sony ever wanted to copy their competition why dont they try copying the durability of their competitions console.
It is common logic:
Water + Electronics = *kerplunk*
After they solve this problem, I am betting they should hammer-proof the PSP next?
Uh...was it drentched? I don't see how anything that would have happened if it was just damp. I guess it is Sony's fault for not making the thing waterproof. I recommend drying it off with a hairdryer, while sitting in a tub full of water.
It's like what they always say "You don't rinse your TV off with a hose, so don't clean your PSP with a soken wet towel."

Of course But it wouldnt hurt them. I mean I could lie about my system and possibly can get a free new one.
replacing my psp = them losing money , durability = less likely a chance I can do this. I just have had many probs with the psp before and I dont think the company benefits within the period of the warranty, which breaks down frequently during that time. thats low but Im stating what I can do.

not drentched at all just wiped one area of the console then boom no more psp.

Maybe I know im comparing a home console but someone demonstrated a gamecube hit with a hammer and it lived to play another day now thats rules.

A Sony system not lasting?
Perish the thought.
But seriously, if I'm following this right, he simply wiped off the screen with a damp washcloth. If that's enough to kill his PSP, then something's a bit wrong here.

Agreed. He didn't just dip the psp in a bucket of water. He merely wiped a section of the screen with a damp rag. It's really not that unheard of.

This is one of the most ridiculous posts I read in a while. Grrr to the evil empire Sony, somebody decides to do something stupid and blame it on Sony.
I hope to God that DS's start breaking right and left.

Not really, it's just people love to point out Sony's faults and some people would litterally take a bullet for nintendo.
Nintendo has sucked since the SNES. They'll never be back on top and since the cool band wagon thing to do now is hate Sony and brag how good Nintendo is, I'll oppose Nintendo and the bandwagon effect.

I just meant the whole "I hope to God" part.
I think he has more to worry about than making Nintendo DS's break. :)

Not to turn this into a fanboy flame war. But the guy said he just wiped it off with a damp rag. Hell I've done that before with a lot of systems. If someone did the same ting to a DS and it fried it They'd prob. be pissed at Nintendo too, just Human nature.
Since the PSP costs over $250 bucks stands to reason it should be a little more durable, dontcha think?
My 2 cents

That seems highly unbelievable if it was just damp, but hey maybe we all have a different definition on the word damp. Out of curiosity, what part of the PSP did you wipe down? It couldn't have been the screen, but thats really the only place you'd might need something damp for, a dry cloth should get every other smudge out fine.

To actually give some advice here...
Pull the battery... IMEDIATELY.
With any luck, it was just some water dropplets that got on the board. Hopefully it didn't cross out anything too important (read, higher voltage). Let it sit for a week or two and try it again. You might find that it'll work fine.
I know sorthy was being sorthy, but aside from the LCD, you probably could wash a psp in the dishwasher.

You're a douche. You soaked your PSP and are now pissed that Sony dosn't make them 'Durable' and said you could lie to get a new one. End of story, you're a douche.

I dont quite understand. If you took a moist cloth (NON dripping) and just wiped the screen, its impossible that it can get broken. There must have come some water inside somehow.

You didnt read my post did you? I said I could get a new psp if I lied , I said that cause if that happens to any other customers they could lie to for a new psp as well.
Which = sony losing money , durability=less chance of doing so
Nah shawn you just dont take mrfoodmonster seriously he got all fired up when I talked about his favorite tv show on the off topic boards.

Here's a helpful suggestion: get a microfiber tack cloth (like 3M sells). They work wonders in picking up dust, won't scratch glass, and I used mine to clean off the surface of my scanner glass.
ProgrammingAce: The dishwasher would likely damage the optical drive's fine components. The PSP has too many places for water to get into and has more fragile components than most other game systems (especially old ones), ribbon cables and the like.

Something isn't right. Ive used a damp cloth to clean my PSP before and it works fine, I think it even says in the manual that you can do that..

You know how long your warranty is when you buy a PSP....15 Days, thats all.

That variates i guess. Like with cellphones here, you might have 2 year warranty, but you can still complain after 4 years and get it fixed. Dont know the english word for it.
You're a douche.
I concure. You still havn't mentioned what area you used the soaking wet towel on, chances are you took the entire thing apart and threw it in the toilet.

It wasnt a wet soaking towel a small damp cloth and I cleaned the serial number area. And wiped it only a few times. Yeah and so useless continuing on this conversation with associations.

Isn't that where the speakers are? Which more than likely gives easy access to the internals for any form of humidity. It had to be more than just a little damp, because it's obvious thats how the water dripped in.
Just leave it alone for a couple of days so things dry out. Maybe it'll work properly again if you're lucky, I really don't see why you'd use anything but a dry cloth there tho. I see very little reason to blame Sony for this now.

I actually don't remember this, and I'm not going to bother looking either. All I'm saying is that you're blaming sony for not making their magical machine impervious to water damage/shorting out. And you mentioned that you had thought about taking advantage of the system of returns by lying. Therefore, you're being a douchebag.

What the hell did you just say? This makes absolutely no sense.
Also, I'm pretty sure if you soaked a DS and tried to play it, you'd get the same results. They can only make them for people that are smart enough to not drench their electronics and try to use them right away.
