Hi!

I recently got DJ Boy (PAL/UK) for my Megadrive and it just won't work. The game itself looks like new and was obviously well looked after so i doubt that's the problem. My Megadrive (Which is also PAL/UK) has recently had a real good clean-up and all my hundreds of other games either work first or second time trying.
I've blown the cart and cleaned the gold connectors but still nothing! All i get is a blank screen,no sega logo...nothing.

My Megadrive is the mark 1 machine,....does anyone know of any known problems with compatibility with DJ Boy or do you reckon that the cart is just screwed?

Any help would be great!

I would say try the game in a Game Genie/Pro Action Replay (don't enter any codes) or try a similar pass through device and see if it works then.

I'd also try it on another system before declaring it dead.

If it still doesn't work after all that then i'd let that cart rest in peace.

if the contacts are clean and it doesnt work in another system then you can try changing the cap inside. It worked for me on the only cart (out of hundreds) I couldnt fix by cleaning the contacts.

I've tried on my Megadrive 1 and also on a Megadrive II.
I even bought a Game Genie but it won't work through that either.

The cart looks mint, the contacts are nice and clean.
How would i go about changing the 'cap' i've bought a tool that can open the carts.....what would i be looking for exactly?

Thanks!

I'm curious as to what this "cap" is too.

The methods i described have helped out in many occasions but if they weren't working then i have no clue where to begin.

But hold onto that Game Genie, it's has a variety of good uses.

I assume he means capacitor. The electrolytic kind tend to dry out over time and stop functioning correctly.

yes the capacitor.i didnt even try to figure out the value, just took one from a working genny cart that was an extra.

I have seen Genesis/Megadrive carts just die before. I remember a ThunderForce 3 cart I rented that died. Granted, I was continuously removing the cart from the slot while it was on (this enables cheats in some Genny/MD games, and I was experimenting on this one).

Who knows, maybe the cart is just dead. I have heard other reports of Genesis carts just dying on folks before.
