I just got this from someone on the Play Magazine online forum.
Here's the headline from 1up.com:
Symphony of the Night Heads to XBLA
"Kaz Hirai's triumphant warcry of "Riiiiiidge Racer" on the PSP led people to believe other key PSOne titles would soon be heading to the PSP via emulation. Apparently Konami missed the memo, as Castlevania: Symphony of the Night is making its way to Xbox Live Arcade.
The September issue of Electronic Gaming Monthly (issue: 207) reports:
Konami is resurrecting the cult PS1 game Castlevania: Symphony of the Night on Xbox Live Arcade. Along with SOTN, Konami is also bringing back other classic hits, some revered (Frogger, Contra, Super Contra, Track & Field) some obscure (Time Pilot), and some really obscure (Scramble).
When will SOTN head to XBLA? Representatives from Konami told 1UP that the game is tenatively slated for a Q1 2007 release on XBLA."
That is so freaking awesome! It is one of the best games ever created. I only hope it plays well with the 360 controllers d-pad. This along with Super Metroid on the Wii with the wii mote, seems to show that gaming is heading in the right direction as far as backwards compatibility goes.

I believe I heard on GAF it will cost $15.
Meh, count me out. I can just go emulate it on my old Xbox for free.

How much is it?
Its free man.You just need to know where to look.
I think this is a very good high profile addtion to XBLA.$15 is a good deal.Theres nothing like having a physical copy of a game though.

Wow, that quote really made me feel old since I used to love Scramble and Time Pilot in the arcades.

That's pretty awesome news, but I would have to say that $15.00 is a little steep considering that most of us either already own it on the PS or we can just emulate it. What I want to hear is that they are going to quit making these turd 3-D versions of Castlevania and stay strictly with a SOTN formula! :vamp:

Is it wrong to be more excited by this game than Halo 3 and GTA4 combined?
A confirmation by Konami and an update...

Yeah has been posted before but still exciting news. Too bad it still hasn't come out yet and the fact that Microsoft decided to release an AMAZING nothing last week.

This version has achievements and leaderboards, and considering what an awesome game CotN is, I'll be happy to get it again. If you don't support the good titles, we'll keep getting crap like Ms. Pac-Man.

Only those with the HD can play the full game, but MS has mandated that Konami make the demo under 50 megs so that those with memory units can play it.

Microsoft has been working on a 256 MB memory card, which would work fine with the new 250MB size limit (http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3156520)... Lord only knows what's taking Microsoft so long to make the memory cards though... flash memory isn't exactly black magic.
That articles also hints at possible 450MB games, which would definitely leave core 360's out in the cold (Unless MS is also working on a 512MB card?).

I agree that $15 is a bit steep, as you can get the GH version of the game for just a bit more. Still, it's great that more people get to play the game. Too bad it's not an enhanced Saturn version, or something (then I would immediately rush out and buy a 360 just for that).

$15 is a little steep? It's a friggin bargain. You obviously haven't checked out Ebay prices lately. $50 is the minimum for a complete, used, greatest hits copy. Loose non-greatest hits copies usually start at $70.
I'm still kicking myself for not buying up the 3 sealed greatest hits copies I saw at a hick town Blockbuster 3 years ago...$9.99 a piece.

Ms. Pac-Man isn't crap, it's just been overkilled in retro compilations (a Pac-Man/Ms. Pac-Man completist would have fun chasing all the ports of both games released by Namco over the past decade...).

You are a bit misinformed as to the value of the game on ebay. Check out (http://search-completed.ebay.com/symphony-of-the-night_W0QQa14Z24232QQalistZa14QQcoactionZcompareQQ coentrypageZsearchQQcopagenumZ1QQfisZ2QQfromZR32QQ fsooZ1QQfsopZ3QQgcsZ1135QQpfidZ1413QQpfmodeZ2QQreq typeZ1QQsacatZQ2d100QQsbrsrtZd) the auctions. The first six games on that page sold for less than $30, and that even includes a non-GH version of the game. You have to go to the bottom of the first page in order to find one that breaks $40. Besides, even if they weren't complete (about half are, half aren't), at $30 you are still getting a physical copy of the game that you can take anywhere; the same can't be said of the XBLA version.
It may not be worth it to you, but at that price I'd rather get the original. Yes, the download is cheaper, but not that much. If it were the Saturn version (which actually does start at $50, if you look at completed auctions), then I would agree it's a great deal.

I misspoke. It's not a crappy game; it's just crappy in the sense that it's already been released a zillion times. I'm part of the problem though, as I bought it! :p

I don't get the appeal of Castlevania SOTN.
I bought it twice.
One to play & sell.
People told me I was stupid to sell such an "awesome game".
Bought it a second time to give it a second chance to impress me.
Still not impressed.
It gets dull after hour 5.
And I yearn to go play something that's not a button-masher.

I've watched this game ever since I got it at it's release. What I think is funny is for a LONG TIME after the release the game just languished in the stores. No one was buying it! I remember very clearly walking into most any Toys R Us and see original SOTN games being sold on clearance for about 14.99 or less LOL

Maybe that's why the Game is so rare in the marketplace? Initial sales were poor, so the publishers didn't print any extra copies. SOTN didn't get second, third, or fourth presses like Final Fantasy 7 did.
Result: FF7 has millions of copies and is as common as dirt. SOTN only numbers in a few thousand and is (relatively) rare.

SotN had to have, IIRC, at least 800,000 copies sold in order to be a GH title.
