I've read that if you have Component cables for the Gamecube, you need a gamecube that does progressive scan in order for it to look any amount better.

However, i don't know if my gamecube does progressive scan.

How do i tell? It was purchased new in August 2003.

You should have it. I think they removed it in 2004.

Look at the back of the GameCube. If there is a "digital out" port, they were intended for the HD cable which Nintendo made 150 of and never sold them to the general public. At least that's what you think, given the crazy prices for them on eBay.

Not all games were optimized to use it, though. Some games that support the progressive scan: F-Zero, Metroid Primes, PSO. If you look on the back of the box, there's a Progressive Scan icon and all that. Easy.

Well then, it looks like it does. 8-)

BTW, what was the one extension port on the bottom of the gamecube (The one that was removed in later models) Used for?

Also, if i ever buy a component cable for my GC, I hear i need to press a button on the GC controller while i turn the gamecube on. Wich button is that?

That port was for the GC modem and GC broadband adapter (2 separate items).

Press "B" while your GC is starting and a little message will come up asking if you want to switch to progressive scan. The nice thing about GC games is you should only have to do this once (holding down "B")...after that it remembers and goes right to the "would you like to switch to progressive scan" message as soon as you start your game.

Yes - all Xboxes support progressive scan. And 720p and 1080i. The game just has to support those resolutions. I only know of 1 Xbox game that runs in 1080i (Atari Anthology).

The Warriors runs in 720p. However most Xbox 1 games are progressive scan only.

To activate the pro scan/Hi def features, you go into the dashboard and it should be under "video" or "Display". I forgot since I haven't used the 'X1' in a while....

yeah but ALL GAMECUBE GAMES WILL WORK with just the component cable plugged into the system.

This is because gamecube games ARE optimized to do 480i HD over the component cable, which is a huge improvement to s-video.

You can select this option by holdin down the button when you turn on the cube. It will ask if you want to run even on the games that don't say progressive scan on the box! ;)

Well i'm not buying a Component cable for my GC just yet, But it turns out i have 3 prograssive scan compatible games for my GC: Burnout, Paper mario: TTYD, and Starfox Adventures.

And i went through my xbox games and found 3 720P compatible games: Sonic heroes, Sphinx and the cursed mummy, And Tony hawk's underground (Surprising for THUG)

But, i'll be upgradingto the wonderful world of HDTV in december if not sooner. First i have to get an XBox 360, but that is coming in 8 days! :D

Just Atari Anthology supports 1080i? Oh, the irony! LOL

xbox games do progressive scan, but mostly 480p, - not like someone said 720p and 1080i.
there are only few titles that supporsts 720p(soul calibur 2 for instance, but you cant stretch in this resolution to widescreen, only 4:3) and only 2 that supports 1080i(aforementioned atari anthology and enter the matrix).
