View Full Version : NJ/NY/CT/PA/DE... August NAVA! - This Sat., August 26th

digitalpress
08-09-2006, 12:32 PM
Greetings, gamers!

Last month's NAVA was a classic, featuring a steady mix of brilliant trades, games, and alcohol. Lots of NAVA veterans like Len Herman and Al Backiel were on hand, and several newcomers (including -gasp- a CANADIAN!) joined the fray.

Are you one of the unfortunate who missed it?

http://www.digitpress.com/images/store

It's OK because we're going to do it all over again. Several home game systems, six arcade cabs, six networked PC's and our ever-improving basement "lounge" are among the store features. Naturally, the people are the highlight. Be one of 'em.

WHEN: Saturday, August 26th, noon to midnight
WHERE: Digital Press Videogames store, see http://www.digitpress.com/store for directions
WHAT: Remember to bring any trade goodies you've got; if you have show-and-tell and need a particular system or monitor set up, email me in advance; snacks, soda and beer are always welcome!

See ya on the 26th!

EDIT BY GAC: Date and extra stated added to topic name, Globalled for event this week.

Well, after missing last months( I know how much everyone missed me, NOT AT ALL, LOL ), I hope to attend this one, but I am not 100% on this as of yet.

I was doubtful on this one since I (kind of) have a family event on the same day...I was actually sort of hoping it would be cancelled.

Then I heard Lady Jaye is coming and thought "hmmm"

Then Oobgarm said he's coming and I thought "hmmmmmm"

Then Sniderman said he might come and I thought "hmmm?"

Then boatofcar said he might come and I thought "hmmmmm?"

Now here's the thing...I've heard through the grapevine, that maybe, just maybe, Kamino will be there. If that's true, this "hmm" stuff is over...I'm there! And if the family complains, I can easily say "Step off, strangers. I have an appointment with Krazy Osama Bin F'in Kamino!" RAAAGGEEEEE

The kamino thing is still kinda iffy, but he said he's 70% sure he's coming. He'll be bussing his ass to Cincinnati.

If it does indeed come to pass, Eternal Tune, kamino, Carey85, and I will all be making the trip out for the weekend.

Good times shall commence.

Man - you guys are killing me! I want to go to ECGXPO (or whatever it's called) in Reading. I'd psyched myself up for it.

I also want to go to NAVA (especially having missed the event last month). When there was talk of skipping this one, I was happy with that.

And now all of these out of towners are coming in!

It's doubtful my wife would let me attend both NAVA on Saturday & Reading on Sunday, and I generally expect Sundays of events to be worse than Saturdays to begin with.

So, I still haven't made up my mind what to do.

Arrggghhh.

(PS: If anybody is a MySQL whiz, especially on Linux, I'm looking for help. DP is actually distracting me from what I ought to be doing right now!)

Yes, I shall be making the mighty trek from Cincy to Clifton, riding bitch with Oobgarm and Tune, and possibly Kamino... I'll probably bring a tradebox with me, containing some pretty decent stuff. Hope to see you all there.

hold your breath, i MIGHT be able to make it....it all hinges on if I can quickly scrape together enough money for a bus ticket, and if I nail a job interview tomorrow morning.
Stay tuned kids. I DO really want to come, and if I DO manage to make it, I'm bringing cheese and beer from Wisconsin for sure.

And Sniderman; If you show up, bring more clocks. ;) The one I got from you in cinci is of course on one gameroom wall....Sure could use another! ;)

I went to a NAVA meeting maybe two years ago...the one that is still up on the NAVA page on videogameconnections.com...hah, I've been checking there for updates and thought it was abandoned. This seems to be a lot further away from me now so I doubt I will be making it up, but maybe some time in the future.

I'm interested in trying to work something out like that. Let me talk to Jessica first, and maybe we can carpool or something.

I'm a lot farther North than you (about 20 minutes from the DP store), so maybe we could meet somewhere in the middle of things and use one car for the travelling.

Looks like I won't make it. My car's front end has a loud "unidentified" rattling/knocking beginning and I need to get that identifed and fixed before I make a trip like this. Last thing I need is for my steering to go out or for a strut to drop on a roadtrip.

Maybe in September...

I feel your pain, Sniderman, I just put $900 worth of maintenance into my car this last week. New struts, a strut mount, tires, a new coil spring, CV axle, and wheel bearing... My car had Forditis and it had to be treated :(. However, I'm still going to go to NAVA this week, I think we're heading out friday morning at like 5. Also, as of what I know, Kamino isn't coming...

Hey Everyone,

I wanted to let everyone know that I'm bringing some cool items to this nava. I need to make some cash, so I'm more into cash than trades but you never know.

I'm bringing a 5200 multicart, a colecovision multicart. Some DS games, maybe some neo geo aes games. Let me know what your looking for and I will see what I can do.

Also, for those that were at the last NAVA and enjoyed the Scramble arcade machine I have some good news. Thanks (A big thanks) to Scott, the monitor is now completely stable and the game works perfectly. I also aquired a couple of new games that I will be bringing to switch into the machine. The boards I have are Scramble, Super Cobra, Roc 'n Rope, and The Alan Iverson version of Super Basketball. It's also possible that I will have a time pilot 84 game by saturday also. Good times.

Ok, i'm a total n00b with this. So I had a few questions...

Where would the trading/selling part take place? Upstairs or down?

Also, will the store be open at the same time? Wouldn't want something to get taken when I was in the bathroom or something.

I really hope I can leave this thing empty handed, or with a small box of games :)

rarebucky
08-22-2006, 12:51 AM
I'm going to be there probably around noon...I can only hope some of you that have stuff to trade/sell will be there early as well.

Where would the trading/selling part take place? Upstairs or down?

It's always been upstairs but it's OK if you feel safer with it downstairs.

Also, will the store be open at the same time? Wouldn't want something to get taken when I was in the bathroom or something.

The store *is* open at the same time. We haven't had any problems with theft probably because there are just too many of us watching. The ratio of NAVA members to walk-in customers in the store at any given time is something like 3-to-1.

Still, there's plenty of room downstairs and that's restricted to NAVA members only. So do whatever feels comfortable.

See ya Saturday.

Kid Ice

If you have stuff to sell I recommend upstairs because the regular customers will buy your stuff.

Crap. For the third time in as many months something has come up last minute which means I can't make it. I used to like going and it feels like I haven't made one in forever. I was supposed to go to NAVA this month, but transportation plans fell through. So I won't be this month after all. :(

Hopefully, September will be a better time for me to go...

One thing's for sure: I will attend a NAVA meet in the not-so-far future...

Oobgarm
08-23-2006, 12:08 PM
After the above barrage of cancellations, Carey85, Eternal Tune, and myself have come to the difficult decision that we are also going to bow out of the event this month, with high hopes that September's meet will be more attended. Driving 10.5 hours only to find a few people there isn't the outcome we'd like to see. No offense to those of you who are going, as I'm sure you're swell folks. If you were in our position I'm sure you'd feel the same. :) I think ECGX kinda killed it this month...

Here's to September. Let's make it the biggest yet! :rocker: I'd assume it's gonna be September 30th?

(and maybe we can actually get kamino to go next time)

No prob, ya drop-outs!

5 or 50, NAVA is always a good time. The turnout still looks good since the local regulars are all in attendance. To me that means there's still plenty of gaming but less competition for goodies.

I'll report back with my finds on Sunday!

BTW, I received StarFox for Nintendo DS early from the good people at Nintendo, and they sent some promotional stuff along. I have what's sure to be pretty rare StarFox peanuts (in little foil bags) and a StarFox barf bag (!) that I'll be working into a trade at this NAVA. So BRING YOUR STUFF!

Awesome time - a different kind of NAVA with just a dozen or so NAVA'ites but LOADS of locals. At one point around 5 or 6pm this store had more people in it than ever before.

I scored some nice stuff from "rarebucky" and "VACRMH", including some boxed systems, loads of boxed N64, Game Boy, Dreamcast and TurboGrafx games... all of which I'll be spending the day getting back on the shelves :)

Pictures forthcoming!
