Taken from Nintendo's PDF file on their website regarding the SNES library of games, here are the games released in 1991. There are a total of 31 games in the list. 4 games (plus Super Mario World) were released in late August. 9 games arrived in September. Only 1 game arrived in October (personally I doubt that only 1 game released in October). 9 games released in November and 7 games in December. Do any of these games look really out of place, in terms of the month released, and the order in which they appeared in that month? Any other games released in 1991, that somehow aren't on this list? Any of these games not actually make it out in 1991?

That looks about right. I remember renting a SNES right after launch and renting Pilotwings and Gradius III. I can clearly remember playing/seeing many of those titles during Christmas vacation, 1991. Super Castlevania IV was nothing short of amazing at the time (in many ways it still is). I remember popping that game in and my jaw hitting the floor. The same goes with F-Zero……it should have been subtitled (heroin racing…).

I didn’t play FFII for the first time for a while…I overlooked it for some reason. When I finally got my SNES in summer of 1992 FFII was the first title I bought for it.

I thought Earth Defense Force was released in 1991.

According to Wiki, EDF was released on Oct 25, 1991 in Japan, Jan 1992 in the US.

Also according to Wiki, Joe & Mac saw a 1991 release on the SNES but it didn't give an exact date.

Hmmm, some places say 1991, other's say Jan 1992 for Jow & Mac...

Not exactly directly related, but...I recall having an NES game guide that had a "bonus guide" for (I think) Super Mario World and Pilotwings, with an ad at the end advertising HyperZone and Hole in One Golf as "coming soon". The timing involved in this is rather odd...
