A question an ebay user asked of one of my sealed NES games up for auction (strider, if you cared):
Q: hi i just wanted to know why having a horizontal seal means its not a resealed copy of the game cant someone do a reseal like that
I basically said that I would get back to him.
I never really thought about the possibility of a re-sealed game with the line, I'm sure it must be technically possible, but at the same time must be a pain in the ass to the point of not being worth it. But then there are those rare games.....
Any insight to this, is it possible that there are clever reseals out there with the line?

guess you havn't ventured over to the ebay forum on this message board. Its seems to be the #1 discussion at all times there.
Seller vividiots sold 50 - 100 reseals, we knew it since day one and finally he was arrested by the FBI.
Happens quite a bit, just need to know what to look for.

And what exactly is it you look for?

well he was buying nes games in lots and then selling them as sealed so he was kinda easy bust.

Top is the auction he bought
Bottom, the one he sold a few weeks later
Pointed out is the same crease.
Anyways I am not a pro when it comes to collecting sealed games like bronty is. However, I have seen some fakes in person and a big thing is how the top of the flap gets creased when the game is first opened. Some resealers color that with a marker to blend the crease with the rest of the box.
Pic of brontys:

There are other things, most have to do with creases that could only be caused by opening the game up such as that.
Its hard to notice in an auction, however in your hands its a little easier.

Ugh, you're not the first to remind me to use my brain ;)
Here's the answers to my question from ebay:

.....so it says that the horizontal seal could be reproduced Horizontal seals mean nothing in the end, does not ensure the legitamacy of the item it seems.
Thank you very much for everyones input.

:D
In the future you can put a disclaimer on your auctions, Kentuckyfried, saying that you don't sell reseals.
Man, I love complete/like new NES games. It's everything a sealed game can be, plus you can actually play it!

If you read the second review close enough its actually vividiots own guide on how to spot a sealed game. He wrote it after he was busted.
