View Full Version : Comix Zone CD?

So.

The other day, I found a near-complete Comix Zone (Genesis) at a thrift store. Not only is it a great game, but I saw on the cover that it included a "free CD!" that contained tracks from Danzig, Love & Rockets, Julian Cope, and more. When I opened up the box, everything was included...except for the CD. Poopie.

So, the info that I seek is this:

1. What's the complete tracklist of the CD?
2. Is the CD any good?
3. How hard would it be to find one o' them?

Thanks in advance for any help you might be able to give me!

It was also included with the PC release, but I think all it has is tracks from the game.

3. 10,000 Knives
4. Seen It For Days
5. Woe Is The World
6. Last To Follow

It actually has songs that have nothing to do with the game. Only songs I can remember off the top of my head:

Lords of Acid - Do What you Wanna Do (I think)
God Lives Underwater - No Love

Well as far as I knew the CD was sold separately. I've never seen a copy of the game that says there's a CD inside.

Sega released a few soundtrack CDs for some games during that time. One of them was for XMen 2, and the music was made by Kurt Harland, of Information Society fame. He went on to write the music for Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver.

Responses so far have been conflicting and confusing... j_factor to the rescue!

There are actually three different audio CD releases associated with Comix Zone. One was packed in with some copies of the Genesis game, one was packed in with all (I think all) copies of the PC version, and one was its own audio CD release on the "Sega Tunes" line.

Only initial copies of the Genesis game came with the CD. The CD comes in a sleeve marked "American Recordings 1995 CD Sampler". And here is the full track list:

1. Danzig - Going Down to Die
2. Lordz of Brooklyn - Saturday Night
3. MC 900ft Jesus - Buried at Sea
4. Jesus and Mary Chain - I Hate Rock and Roll
5. Love and Rockets - Words of a Fool
6. Lords of Acid - Do What You Want to Do
7. The Stiffs - Chelsea (radio edit)
8. Julian Cope - Try Try Try
9. God Lives Underwater - No More Love
10. Ruth Ruth - Uninvited
11. Laika - 44 Robbers (alt radio mix)
12. Lindsey - Got it Goin On (radio edit)

As for whether or not it's good, well, if you like these bands, it's good. :P

The track list that Jorpho posted is for the Sega Tunes release. The music on this CD is based on tunes from the game, but performed with real instruments (guitars, bass, drums) and with vocals added. It comes in a jewel case with small booklet like any other CD album. The Sega Tunes releases had a red bar on the left that said "Sega Tunes" in a way as to resemble the big red "Genesis" bar that marked genny games. The cover was a lightly modified version of the game cover art, and the booklet was extremely minimal, with just a track list and a list of Sega Tunes releases.

Finally, there's the CD that came with the PC version. Actually it features the same exact tracks as the Sega Tunes release. The difference is the packaging. This CD comes in a sleeve marked "Road Kill: Audio CD", and says it features six tunes by Road Kill, a fictional band formed by people who worked on the game (and who only made those six songs, as far as I can tell). The Sega Tunes release didn't make any mention of Road Kill.

Road Kill was:
Tim P. - vocals
Howard Drossin - guitars, vocals
Weird Guy - bass
David Harte - drums
Guitar solos on "Feed my Disease" and "Woe is the World" by Philip Stevenson

Another reason to go for the PC version! Thanks for the explanation j_factor.

I might mention that Roadkill is the name of Sketch's pet rat, so it's no mistake that the "band" disappeared soon afterward LOL

Are you sure about that? (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000001VED/sr=8-2/qid=1155306694/ref=pd_bbs_2/104-6235553-7731167?ie=UTF8) Even Chudah seems to disagree. (http://chudahs-corner.com/soundtracks/index.php?catalog=12_815)

There was also a five-CD boxset which included the CDs for Comix Zone, Vectorman, Toejam and Earl, XMen 2 and Virtual Sonic, at least according to Amazon.com.

Thanks, guys! This is exactly the information I was looking for.

EDIT: Well, the Comix Zone box itself said that the CD was included...

I have a sealed domestic Genesis release that says the CD's inside.. but I'M not opening it ;) .

5 years ago.. sealed copies of Comix Zone were everywhere (around $10 too); about 2 years ago.. as stock was bought up they became HTF (about the time I bought mine.. and I think I paid $20 as I recall).. now they're "somewhat" non-existent. Much along the lines of trying to find a sealed SNES Mohawk & Headphone Jack with the "calling card" inside.. or for that matter.. a sealed copy of Killer Instinct with the CD (becoming rare also).

I'll dig out my sealed CZ this weekend and take a picture and put it up.

I'm 1000% sure. Those are different CDs which were described earlier in this thread. I took some pictures for documentation. First is everything in the box.

This shows where it says the CD is actually inside the box, not a sendaway. Sorry about the blur, it looked decent in the little screen on the camera.

I also ripped the CD and converted the WAVs to MP3s so everyone could check the music out, but the archive was too big for my online storage. If anyone wants the MP3s and has a way to transfer them, let me know and I'll send them to you. Interestingly this copy still has the plastic on it, only opened at the top. It came from K-Mart. The original price on this baby is a ridiculous $64.99! However, there is another price tag on this one noting that it was reduced all the way down to $14.99 before it sold.

I have the same one nebrazca78 has.. only sealed. Geez.. I better put this thing in a protector.. it's gonna' get smashed.

Thanks for the pics. It's nice to finally know what SHOULD be in mine. Just wondering.. are they the full songs or just blurbs?

I have a 3DO Road Rash with a soundtrack CD. Didn't even realize it was just a collection of 30 second samples until I finally listened to it a couple of weeks ago.

Alas, my PC version (not to mention my scanner) has been disassembled and packed up at this point. I might be able to dig that CD out later if somone wants pics.

In the meantime, here's the box, from my recent photo montage:

Holy christ, that is an awesome cd. Comix Zone and Lords of Acid in one box, that's pretty cool.

I bought the game brand new at Toys R Us and there was no CD in the box. It WAS marked on the packaging. Did they stop doing it in the middle of the run or something?

To nebrazca78: Thanks for showing the pics, I'm surprised to see that comix zone came with a cd, the one I purchased had no such thing (although I did purchase it when the geny was going on its way out). As for the uploading of the songs, have you tried rapidshare or megaupload? I believe rapidshare has a 100 MB limit, while megaupload has a 250 MB limit.

The CD that I posted pictures of that was included with some copies of the Comix Zone game does not have music from the game. It's just a sampler CD of artists playing their own commercially available music. There is another CD available which has the music from the game, search for it on Amazon.

Oooooooooooooh, okay, I misunderstood, I thought the sampler CD inside Comix Zone was the same one I linked to. My mistake.

However, I've handled several Comix Zone boxes and I've never seen any mention of a sampler CD inside. After seeing that picture here I don't doubt it exists, I've just never seen one with my own eyes.

Nothing's listed for 1-1, unfortunately. Project 2612's good about putting correct tags on their game rips, too.

FYI, there's nothing, absolutely nothing, special* about that 1995 American Records sampler CD. It was a standard issue free promo sampler American was giving out that year. It's basically the equivalent of opening up a magazine and having an AOL CD fall out. Why they paid to have it included in Comix Zone, I couldn't tell you.

* not a commentary on the musical selections.

Thanks for the awesome info! I will be using Megaupload a lot in the future. Here's the link to the Comix Zone sampler CD rar file I uploaded:

It's in MP3 format, 320 CBR.
