Man, you guys are pretty picky about it being so big. I like it big if it fits in the right spot! Maybe I should get rid of my clunky Atari since it wastes volume in that big case. Personally if I were spending quite a bit more for something that's suposed to be more powerful and reased around the same time as another system let it be bigger. If it were a handheld then you can complain more so about its size and shape. I think it looks sleek.

For whoever said "put it next to an original Xbox," well, that wouldn't accomplish much as there are already 360/xbox comparisons. The 360 is overall the same size as the original xbox.

Wow that is fucking huge. That is a big ass console if you ask me. It's also ugly as fuck. I really hate the curved shell design of it. Whenever I see it, it reminds me of a double door black refrigerator or something. I'm not sure why, but I always get this image of a refrigerator or something. I know people always say that it looks like a George Foreman grill, but for whatever reason, I get this mental picture of a refrigerator.
That is a big ass puppy right there. I hope it will fit in the entertainment slot that I was planning to use. My Xbox 1 barely fit into that spot. That could really suck, cause I have a custom designed entertainment center in my living room, and I have specific spots for consoles to go. That big ass thing might not fit into any of the spots that I was normally going to use. Hmm

Not too far from the truth. Inside that monstrosity is, apparently, a PS2 chipset to acheive the backwards compatability. As well as the PS3 chipset, BluRay drive, 60 GB HDD and the PSU(?). Methinks it's gonna overheat quite rapidly.

The Ps3 looks small if you ask me. Nothing compares to the size of the original controller for xbox. When I first got the system the controller was brought to me in a space shuttle.

Why is it so curvy? It's definitely one of the ugliest consoles in recent times. It's bigger than the Xbox even.
I hate it. They could have at least made it somewhat square like the Xbox, but they had to go with the "stack random shapes and make it all curvy and shit" design.
As if I didn't need more reason not to get a PS3. I think I'll be content with my Xbox 360 and Wii for "next gen gaming"...

Who cares if people talk, I guess if you want to be a free employee for sony sure, but really, who gives a crap. I myself owned a ps1 at launch, but to me, from everything I've read up on it looks like they are just lagging behind on details, trying to launch another failed media (re: minidisc) and covering up the rest of it with borrowing from others.
Now, take into account I never said that was a bad thing. After all, what REALLY makes a console diffrent? The titles. I could give 2 craps what a console has, marketplace, points, gyro sensor what have you, it's all about the games, and even though I won't touch a ps3 right now, since I'm happy with a 360, and the Wii looks great, I'm sure I'll get the itch when that FF VII remake hits, or some of the shooters like "army of 2" that looks awsome.
To tell you the truth, I had an xbox for a long time, the original, but I bought a cube... and had more fun with that in a week then I had with that original XboX or ps2.
I'm just getting really sick and tired of Sony messing up what could be a great console, so much bad rap coming around, I really hope they are wrong about the ps3 and it's a great system, ps1 was my last launch system and I never regretted it, but sony has been so spoiled because they are THE name and think people will buy blu-ray and it's console just because that's what it is, a SONY.
A lesson they will learn, and survive, console makers are like kids, they need to understand they cannot sway the market, the people spending the money do.

Wow, seeing that one post with the pic of all the consoles sitting next to each other with the exact measurements. looking at that, it's obvious that the Wii is just going to fucking dominate in Japan. The Japanese people like things small, and the Wii is just perfect for that. The PS3 is the exact opposite. Sony should know that Japanese people don't want some big ass monolith from 2001 A Space Odyssey.

The difference with people (like me in this case) that "defend" Sony and fanboys is that fanboys usualy dont check facts first and talk shit about the other brands, i dont do that.
I.e people say Sony stole the controller idea from Nintendo just because it have tilt function. The PS3 controller was shown only a few days after the Wii controller. Sony couldnt have wipped up a tilt function in a few day. It do take time to make something like this, so who knows how long Sony have been working on the tilt function. They might have started even before Wii got the idea. And the tilt function is nothing new, its been around for years.
Its stuff like this i wish people would think about instead to scream out "stolen".

Who says I was talking about the controller? Also, keep in mind I fully expect nintendo to come out with some kind of "points" system as well, borrowed idea, but hey, I like the idea of a total "gamer score", and if everyone borrows, it evens the grounds for all systems leaving it up to the GAMES to win, not the name brands.
Sony does steal idea's, so does everyone, but whats life without competition, if you think one idea is going to win people over, and you stop making more idea's... you'll lose in the business world.

Yup you got it, like I said, if people didn't borrow idea's we wouldn't have disc drives, or polygons, or anything we have today!

Depends on which version of the dev kit you're talking about... the alpha kit was about the size of a dorm fridge. Beta was about the size of a 4U server. It's not guaranteed that this is the final design yet either, as that picture in the first post is just a block of wood, no electronics. Sony may still have trouble fitting everything in that case.
