Just interested if anyone on here actually owns a PSX?
It is quite a nifty looking bit of kit, but how do people find them? Can you actually use the PVR and Websurfing functions outside of Japan?
So do any of our resident PS2 collectors feel this hardware is needed to complete you collections?
And does anyone own the special Ceramic White USB Dualshock? I'm assuming it's quite a rare item as the PSX didn't exactly have the greatest sales?

I wanted one back in 03 when they were first introduced, but finding one that didn't cost a fortune, for equipment that I already have, (burner and such) was tough to do... Eventually I'll pick one up just to have, but I really don't have a need or a real want for it. Besides, a lot of features are based on firmware that Sony would issue later down the road. So after slow sales of the PSX, would they still even mess with trying to realease upgrades and junk for it? I think it's kinda like their hard drive for PS2, hype it up, then let it fall....but who knows? Maybe someone that has one can fill us in.

Nope... If I was in Japan then yes, since it was released there. However since didn't get a release here even though they said they were going to its not even on my radar of things to worry about.
If it came out here like they promised it was going to i'da plunked down the grand for it, probably without thinking. However i've kept to my rule about PlayStation imports... and just avoid them since I know that if I ever really start, I wont stop.
It 'should' only matter if you are either into quirky really expensive limited edition imports... or really REALLY into Sony. I'm REALLY into Sony and I'm not going to even think about it unless one fell into my lap.

I wanted one, but the price tag was WAY to high for what it was IMO at the time.

It is/was the code name for the PlayStation if I remember correctly. The media picked up on it and used that acronym instead of the PS acronym when talking about the system.
In Sony's eyes there is a disctinct difference, but for those that read gaming magazines and are up on gaming they kinda get confuddled and think they are the same thing.

There's a store by me with one for sale (looks minty) for US$500. I want one, 'coz they're cool, but $500 is too much for me.
Well, I bet someday they'll be a bit cheaper before they go back up again. Maybe in a few years after the PS2 is out the door.

But didn't Sony actually release a few of the original designs of the 'PSX' (NOT the playstation we all know today..) back in the mid-90's? The one that played SNES games too?
So shouldn't this really be dubbed as the 'PSX 2'??

All of them just ended up being mockups or internal builds. I do think that they ended up building 2 different models, one of which can be found HERE (http://www.game-rave.com/psx/playstation_perfect_guide/snes_psx/index.html) and there was talk about something like 20 or so of the other model that were made and were going to be sent out for developers to start to build games for it, but were all destroyed when the whole Sony/Nintendo thing imploded back in 92-93.
The PSX moniker was designated as far as I know for the early PlayStation builds not the PS/SNES builds.
