We'll this is no shocker, just about every tech guru, or just a bout anyone on any tech show I've seen has basically said. "I'm not a Microsoft fanboy" in fact they might even hate Xbox/360. But Sony Alienated so many people with the high price point. I mean people expected the PS3 price point to compete with the Xbox, and sony ironically did a "360" from what everyone expected. So indeed alot of people will be going to the "dark side" this christmass.

I don't know, it seems more like they did a 180, but that's just me.
If the PS3 can play any region PS1/PS2 games then I'm sold. Screw the haters and screw the hype, that's all I really want/need out of it. The new gimmicks in the controller and online server don't interest me at all and I don't care what the hardware looks like. I just want to be able to play all of my Japanese and US PS1/PS2 games in HD on my tv.

Yeah you do a 180 when you completely go against what you said because if you did a 360 you're right back where you started from and nothing changed. I remember this movie when this guy was about to be betrayed and killed by his own henchman and he was in the pool and he tells the henchman that's about to kill him you did a 360 on me and the guy says no I did a 180 because If I did a 360 I'd be back where I started from right before he killed him. Just wanted to put that out there because I remember that scene from a movie I saw a long while back. Anyone know the title of it.

Not surprising, the thing's exspensive and there are any really good launch games yet.
Sony is probably wishing that they went the MS route right about now and released the thing with a normal drive and made an addon Blu Ray device if the format became popular.
I doubt I'll ever get a PS3, mainly because I've yet to ever own all three systems from a current generation, and since I already have a 360 and plan to get a Wii there will be no room for Sony's machine.

Yep... and then another 6-14% sales tax depending on your province... bingo bango you're looking at $750. Add a game and an accessory or two like an extra controller or whatever and you're looking at $900  To play the one single game you own
What's that you say? you want some variety? a couple more games? Hello $1k+ Cdn LOL Sony is really fucking nuts. I make a decent living and have no kids yet and there is no fucking way I am paying that much. Beyond the first few adopters who the hell will?

Man, I'm not sure what the hell I'm going to do regarding whether to get a PS3 at launch or not. I have this streak going of buying home consoles on the day they come out (major home consoles) dating all the way back to the SNES. Take a look at this list:
SNES - on launch day
Sega CD - on launch day
Atari Jaguar - on launch day
Sega 32X - on launch day
Sega Saturn - on launch day
Sony Playstation - on launch day
Nintendo 64 - on launch day
Dreamcast - on launch day
PS2 - on launch day
XBOX - on launch day
GameCube - on launch day
Xbox 360 - on launch day
If I don't buy both the Wii and PS3 on the day it launches, then my 15 year streak will be broken. I've thought all along that I would be getting a PS3 at launch despite the price, mainly cause I was also interested in the Blu Ray player, but considering that so many early Blu Ray adopters are super dissapointed with Sony's decision to stubornly stick with a 10 year old codec (MP2) for the High Def compression, and the Blu Ray movies released so far are incredibly dissapointing in comparison to HD-DVD movies, and considering the PS3 really doesn't have any real "killer" apps this year for the PS3, with a bunch of 360 ports and early games with little polish, I'm wondering if I should really throw the $800 or some odd dollars that I would have to throw at that. Especially when I'm interested in also getting a Wii and a HD-DVD add on for the 360, and the camera for the 360, and the wireless force feedback steering wheel for the 360.
Man, I'm going to be broke as hell this Xmas.

As was said before "Last Action Hero" (a very underrated movie).
The part of the scene thats most relevent:
Tony Vivaldi: What is this, Benedict? First you're my friend; now you turn a... 360 on me!
Benedict: 180, you stupid, spaghetti-slurping cretin, *180*! If I did a 360, I'd go completely around and end up back where I started!

This thread prompted me to try and find a launch list. Other than resistance Fall of Man I do not see anything too exciting, espeacially for $59.99. Sonic? Genji 2? COD3...maybe...Warhawk, maybe just to fiddle with the controller...that's about it...looks like Heavenly Sword has already slipped into Feb. which is what we saw with Gears Of War last year...we'll probably wait another year for that one...
Not an impressive launch list for a large investment. Blu-Ray will be cool...(Anthony I think they are changing codecs at some point??)...I just hope it makes my PS1 and PS2 games look prettier...

Wow, that really hurts if Heavenly Sword isn't there. It's supposed to be "Goddess of War" and the most beautiful PS3 game out there. A showcase game. Man, without that, things are really hurting for a very compelling piece of software. I'm sure that Resistance: Fall of Man will be good, but not worth buying a freaking system over. Warhawk might be kinda fun too, again, not worth buying a system over. Any game that is also available on the 360 doesn't interest me whatsoever, considering the 360 version will likely be much better, considering developers are probably more familar with how to code on 360, and the game will probably run smoother.
Damn, the PS3 launch lineup is looking mighty weak, and then you add the whole Blu Ray codec thing on top of it, and it's pretty depressing on the Sony side of the street. I'm still likely going to get one at launch, but it's not exactly going to be providing me with tons of thrills this holiday season. The Nintendo Wii probably has a better launch lineup, and that's not saying much.

Personally, I can't see why having a 360 at home would be bad.
That increases their familiarity with gaming in general.
Overall she sounds silly, really. No interest in the asthetics of gaming. No interest in knowing what's going on elsewhere around the block (unless the price is right LOL ).

I said the same thing when I bought my Saturn.
$600 for a system plus a game plus an HDTV is huge. Even while adjusting for inflation PS3 would have cost more than Saturn back in 1995. Besides the die-hards, this system is going to be a tough sell...even for Sony.

Well, unfortunately most people have budgets that they have to stay within. I think this makes them responsible, not silly.

Well, maybe my point didn't come across well.
It seemed that she wanted to get a second PS3 for home. Remember that there would always be one waiting at work.
Now maybe I'm in the minority, but...hello? Why would you want to have the same system twice when you could essentially use it to get one for free?
I agree with you that this is about being responsible financially, but I sense an undercurrent of not caring about what happens with Microsoft and Nintendo. This sort of thing ensures that they'll be underinformed about the state of the industry at large and unable to give an honest gamer's opinion about the strengths of the PS3 in relation to other systems (assuming that it's their job to sell the system to a degree, which they may or may not agree with).
Excuse me while I continue to laugh at something I read in an issue of OPM-Aus two years ago this month:
"In a perfect world, all PlayStation games would be made by Guerilla!"
(And on that note, could anybody confirm/deny if this appeared in the US version of the magazine? Killzone was the August 2004 cover story for OPM-Aus).

The price point isn't the only reason the PS3 is in trouble, I'm just stating this to push the point: there doesn't seem to be a "killer ap" for the console yet. Nothing to really push consumers into stores and plunk down a few hundred dollars. The only way I can see Sony really getting money from is is the same reason why a lot of people bought a PS2 the first time around.
This time it's Blu-Ray. Last time it was DVD.
I remember a lot of people buying a PS2 because "it was a cheap DVD player." NOW there are some great games on it, don't get me wrong, but when it launched I personally wasn't too impressed. My Dreamcast was still spinning. This time around, will people buy Blu-Ray? Even for that price point? Is it really such a big step forward that they'll make money off of it, or at least sell enough consoles to sell enough SOFTWARE to pay for it all?
I don't know. But I'm not getting one for a WHILE. Sony's going to have to outright prove this system's worth, because I have a DVD player and DVD movies, and no need for a new movie platform. I want a gaming console, not an "all-in-one entertainment" machine.

I was the greatest Xbox360 basher around not too long ago but with Sony's arrogance, insane price point, etc it looks like I will make my second console this generation (next to the Wii) an Xbox360.
I would never ever have thought this just a few months ago.
The market is changing.

What I like most about a statement like that is that I know I'm getting honest PS coverage in the magazine, as opposed to the drivel I've seen in the Official Xbox Magazine (where they seem to be forced into towing the company line).
What I hate about it is the furor it causes amongst the fanboys, who can't handle it when something this 'exciting' happens...

That's what I'm doing. There's going to be some great titles late in the PS2 lifecycle. I'll just get by on those.
The 360 and Wii are both coming out with price points that I can actually picture myself meeting, but there's not a chance in hell I'll even look at a PS3 until the second price drop.... and most likely even longer than that.

I am not happy about the ps3 pricing. I only know one person that actually even has an HD TV so as far as I'm concerned BluRay is uneccessary at this point. Assuming of course that the whole purpose wouuld be for Hi-Def movies.
On my regular TV switching to SVideo and component made a huge difference, so I wont be upgrading to HD just yet.
I was considering the Wii .. only thing compelling on the 360 for me is FFXI, and without HD it's the same as the ps2 one....
sooooOoooOo time to buy another dreamcast.... I just need an EU one and I should be good =)
