Need opinions on Famicom games

I've been dying to try out some famicom games on my new messiah nex system. Unfortunately, I can't read japanese and wouldn't know what the hell was going on in a game with alot of text (rpg's, games with extensive menu use, etc.) Can anyone recommend any 8-bit famicom games that are fun to play and pretty straight-forward like a side-scrolling platformer or something? Thanks alot.

Bio Miracle Bokutte Upa (cool platformer, play a baby!)

Naughty Kokkuns Gourmet World (play a chef!)
Mr. Gimmick (This one's actually released in europe so its in english, great game imo)
Holy Diver (like castlevania)

Strategy:
Zoids Mokushiroku (I love this game... its like a strategy rpg but when you attack a unit its a real time shooter, good 2 players)

Though off-hand, I would suggest Devil World, completely in English and one of the best Famicom games I know of.

Oh I forgot to mention Cocoron, the weirdest famicom platformer of them all! You can make your own character in it too.

Getsu Fuuma Den (usually called Getsufu Maden) is great, though you'll need a walkthrough for some bits when characters talk to you in Japanese.

I personally like Ikki, but that's just me. Treat it as a game of cops and robbers, with you as the robber armed solely with rocks, and it becomes less frustrating ;) It's not a replacement for Contra.

I didn't know there was a Dragon Buster II, I'll have to look into that. The original was kinda like a predecessor to Castlevania (albeit by Namco, and sucking).

I also like Splatterhouse: Wanpaku Graffiti. Good game!

Also Power Blazer, if anybody's got a morbid curiosity about the game that spawned Power Blade ;)
