Well, I'm talking games that had a US release.

I still don't understand the reasoning behind the fact that there was no LSL 4. It was meant as a joke I guess.
It was because Al Lowe swore there would never be a Leisure Suit Larry 4 - so they just went right to 5 ;)
Seriously. I always thought that was awesome and was going to mention it in this thread as well :D
Also Power Punch II officially had no prequel. It's the same game as the "Intergalactic Power Punch"
So it and Pepper II are the old two so far?
How about Miner 2049er? :D

That is a parody game meant to mimic Street Fighter II. Is Pepper II still the only "II" entirely on its own in the US?

That would be me. I've got the PC-88 and FM-7 versions of Thunder Force 1, and the PC-JX and PC-88 versions of Thunder Force Construction Set (lets you build your own levels). As somebody already pointed out, there's also versions on the PC-6001, PC-6601, X1, FM-77, and MZ-1500.
Yes Blue Lander is the internet's Thunder Force 1 guru and without his research, I would not have known nearly as much about TF1 as I do.

How about games that were meant to be part 1 of 2 or more and never saw the sequel.
Like...
Lord of the Rings Volume 1
RapJam Volume 1
The had no sequels but implied sequels.
I believe Nightshade for the NES had some kind of "Volume 1" or "Chapter 1" subtitle....

Afterburner II - Was the original ever even released?
I believe the arcade version was a Japan-only release, but it was ported to the Master System.
Yes, and the two games are essentially identical. Afterburner "II" just has throttle control, while the original moved at a constant speed.
After Burner II has more levels as well.
So what's the verdict? Is Pepper II the only game in VG history with a "II" in front of it that didn't have a first game?
So it and Pepper II are the old two so far?
Apparently, the 'II' in Pepper II refers to the two character personalities in the game (angel/devil). (See post by rbudrick on the previous page.)
