This looks like the Megadrive packaging, but has Genesis logos on it, picked it up at a thrift in town. What's the story on it?

I believe that is the version that was released in canada.

I have a few genesis games with altered box styles that I think are also canadian releases.

Very interesting.

The illustration as the same used in Brazilian and European versions of the Sonic the Hedgehog.

I had a question.
- The Mega Drive is named Genesis in Canada too?

Yeah. It was marketed/distributed by Irwin Toy under license from Sega. Irwin has since folded but it was a pretty formidable company back in the '80s and early '90s. I owned a few stocks courtesy of my parents so I remember going to the annual shareholder meetings and testing out all the concept toys. Incidentally, that's how I got my first taste of the Genesis... :D

Thanks for his explication, Jim.

In Brazil, my country the Mega Drive and other Sega Consoles are manufactured, distribuited and marketed by Tec Toy under license from Sega.

The Tec Toy company still manufacture Master System and Mega Drive.

But the current Master Sytem and Mega Drive had a characteristic: They have a several games built in.

The current Master System had 112 games built in and the current Mega Drive had 71 games built in.

I had the same box. Yes, I am Canadian.

The back in the box was multilingual though, like it was intended for Europe.

Although it is the Canadian release, some were sold in the U.S. I remember seeing it at Toy Liquidators all the way back when you could still get SMS games there (and they also sold Canadian/European SMS games at Toy Liquidators too).

Sothy you assfuck, I tried a searching. I got like 200 results of crap posts. (like whys my sonic box have "Not for sale" printed on it, is it a proto nonsense) I think some of them were probably started by you. If I knew what the fuck it was I would have found the obscure topic, but any search for Sonic boxes turned up zilch. You are an idiot.

Emuaust is an idiot too. Is he you butt buddy? Can I find that in search here at DP?

wow seeing that box art brings back some childhood memories. I remember seeing it in the United States at my local KB Toys when I was little and had to ask if it was a new Sonic game.

You must remember here in Canada we have TWO official languages, English AND FRENCH, and no offense to any french Canadians here but the French here in Canda are very adamant about keeping their French heritige and if there is any chance of having multi-lingual packaging it WILL be there, in fact many of our products have french first and english written second depending on where it comes from.
