Okay, this surely needs an explanation. :) Now if anything can be said about me as a gamer, it's that I don't just casually play games, I don't just "like" games or "enjoy" games, I'm PASSIONATE about games, and this has held true since I was a kid. Just prior to me getting RPG-crazed, when I was around 13 and in 8th grade, I was full on obsessed with the Donkey Kong Country games. I got the original the very day it came out, thoroughly loved it, eagerly anticipated the sequel, and loved that one even more when I got my grubby paws on it. I even went so far as to order around a hundred bucks worth of DKC crap from the Nintendo Power catalog at the time. I wore DKC2 shirts to school, toted around the strategy guides everywhere, and all around made a complete dork out of myself, hehe. As proof, I even have a photo of me in my 8th grade yearbook wearing one of the shirts:

Now, as for the "DKC restaurant", my 8th grade English teacher gave an assignment to the class to make a made-up restaurant menu. I, of course, couldn't pass up on the opportunity. It wasn't a very large project so it's nothing fancy, but I thought my sheer corniness alone is worth the read:

Yeah, I imagine some of you may cringe at the fact that I mauled my Donkey Kong Country manual and Donkey Kong Country 2 box in the creation of the project, but all in all, I think it was worth it. :P

Hahaha, this is one of the geekiest things I've ever seen.

I love it.

I have a similar tale, a very very short one:

1st grade. We were asked to write 3 sentences about ourselves. I wrote:

Right now I am renting Mega Man 3 from the video store. I just beat Shadow Man. When I take it back I am going to rent Kung Fu Heroes.

Everytime I wonder how long I've based my life around videogames, I think of that.

I remember making some sort of art collage out of things I cut out of Nintendo Power. Back in 7-8th grade or something.

I'll have to see if it's around somewhere.

Your thing is awesome BTW. 8-)

I'll have the Dixie Hair Pasta... banana cream pie... and a Jungle juice! :-P

Yeah, you were a dork... as was I. I can't count the number of times I took a Nintendo Power mag to school and read it religously during library time. I was the best NES player when it came to Double Dragon.

I remember when I was in the 5th grade (1985 - 1986), we had to make a collage of something that we were interested in. I made an art collage of my favorite arcade videogame, Dragon's Lair. I got all of my electronic gaming magazines and cut out any pictures I could find of DL. We had to right something that had to rhyme. One day I will find it and post it.

Aussie2B: My question is, where did you find this project? Did you have this out in the open with your game stuff? or was it stashed away in a box, and as you were cleaning you stumbled across it?

I recently was doing some heavy duty spring cleaning (back during spring), and found X-Men and Mortal Kombat projects I did for school back in 1992 / 93. Yay ;)

Very cute, Aussie2B! Dorky, but cute! :)

I never did anything super dorky videogame-wise in school (seems like my schools were always game-obsessed, or maybe it's because I hung out with the dorks).. When I was in 2nd grade I did write my own copyright-infringing story, "Charlie Brown goes to Russia". Drew pictures for it and everything, and my teacher let me read it to the class. Didn't get beat up (for that, at least).

I think my mom still has it somewhere. Then again, she still has my kindergarten report cards that show I failed "cutting with scissors". I still suck with scissors. :)

Heh nice, I remember doing something like that in school, but I don't think mine was video game themed.

But, I found this restaurant in Hong Kong that is video game themed.

LOL That's awesome. Reminds me of how whenever I'm asked what I did on summer vacation, I always put my rare finds and/ or games beaten. That menu is awesome though! One question: Can I get my Squawk's Eggs over easy? :P

While I don't remember the exact circumstances of finding it, yeah, I think it went missing for quite a few years. I'm guessing I found it among school stuff my mom has saved or maybe I was just smart enough to hold onto it in my own stuff. Either way, I've had it kicking around for a couple years, but I only just now decided to share my geekiness with the world, hehe. When I finally get a legitimate game room, I'll definitely proudly display it. :)

I've done a whole bunch of nerdy similar stuff, but one that sticks out is that in either 3rd or 4th grade, we had this part project that you had black glue that you put in designs on the paper, and then once it dried the next day, we pained watercolors on it. One of the little designs looks like a monsterous pac-man with sharp teeth and a strange growth on his back. I'll take a picture of it if I ever find it.

I was like this too when I was small. Hell in grade 1 we had a weekly journal book to fill, and every week I'd write about the games I rented over the weekend, including pictures and stuff :P.

Very creative his creation.

The Donkey Kong Country Restaurant is a good exemple of thematic restaurant.

Other thematic restaurants imaginated for me:

- Final Fight Bistro: The restaurant had a several foods.
Since the junk food like hamurgers and french fries and to sophisticated japenese food likes sushi.

- Burger Time Snack Bar: Hamburgers only in the menu.

Hah, I've wondered the same thing. In my case, it's probably because I trap myself indoors too much being passionate about my own game collection.

That didn't sound right at all. LOL But seriously, I've been passionate about games since I was a kid also, and I thought that was a cool little project to see. Donkey Kong Country rocks.

But that project reminds me of the times in 5th/6th grade when I would bring SNES and Genesis manuals to school to read when I was really bored. I'm sure some people thought it was dorky, but I didn't care. Heck, because of that, I got to talking to other guys about games and got some sweet deals on games they didn't want, so it's all good. :)

I think that the whole restaurant thing is Fantastic :)

Cute kid too ;)

I can remember being similarily engrossed in Mario et al way the hell back when.

So what did you make on it?

I'm not sure what you mean. o_O Do you mean what grade I got? Actually, that's the one bummer about it; I turned it in late and I only got half credit (a pretty hefty punishment for 8th grade, if I do say so myself). I can't recall exactly why I turned it in late, though. Maybe I got too wrapped up in cutting out pictures and writing cheesy descriptions. :P

I believe my peak of ultra dorkness was wearing a Mario shirt on picture day in 6th grade.

That was a pretty cool idea and a nice read, thanks for sharing that.

I never did any video game related assignments in school myself - about the closest I got was drawing my own SMB and Super Mario World levels when there was nothing else to do, and I never shared those with anyone (Yeah, I've been thinking of doing an SMW hack one of these days.) At one point in the seventh grade, I started making my own platformer (I remember that I drew at least 50 levels) and maps for a Crystalis-style action RPG.

As for video game clothing, I had a Mario t-shirt and matching shorts in second grade, a Mario sweatshirt around the same time, and a Donkey Kong Country t-shirt that my mom got as a preorder bonus at Babbage's (the game was released just in time for Christmas and I got both the game and the shirt as my big gift).

Two projects i did were...

5th Grade - Write a letter to a company. I wrote to Nintendo of America and asked if i could get Miyamotos autograph (little did i know he was from the japan branch, LOL) and i got a few sweet pictures signed by all the Nintendo/Power staff instead~

7th Grade - MaKe a Magazine. Of course at the time i was obsessed w/ N64 so i made a nintendo 64 magazine~ fake interviews and reviews of banjo-kazooie~ etc.

the only thing i ever did artistically involving games was when i was about 3 years old...i drew a pacman on the wall of my bedroom in pen. i cant remember drawing it, but i remember thinking i was going to get into HUGE trouble when my mom saw it....

so i signed my brothers name to it.

it was directly next to my bed, drawn in the only light in the room - which came from my nightlight - and my brother was three years older than me. his handwriting was much better.

my parents are cool, so i got a talking to, but didnt get in huge trouble... and they took a picture of it for posterity! ill try to track it down tomorrow and post it. its funny.

That's really cool. And you were a cute li'l dork. Awww.

Kind of reminds me of an actual restaurant that existed in my town of Walla Walla in the 80's.

Someone actually did a LoTR rip-off theme restaurant called The Shire. Man, would I have loved to the cease-and-desist order for that. LOL
