View Full Version : Have you ever just "passed"?

Specifically, I mean on a game (vid, pin, other major arcade item). Like, it's available, it's on your wantlist, and you have the cash for it, but you just... don't bother?

I rarely do this. If I want it, I'll buy it. If it's nice and I don't want it, I'll buy it if there's trade or resale value.

Today, though, is different. A game that I want is available on the cheap. I can pick it up tonight. The problem? I don't really feel like making the 50 minute drive there, loading it up, and making the 50 minute drive back. I've driven longer hours than this before to pick up games that I've wanted less; but today, I just don't want to. In fact, there's a good chance that I just won't even bother picking this game up ever. I'm not lazy, I'm just getting tired of frequent travel to pick up arcade games. I want to get home from work and stay home tonight. I want the weekend to come and be able to say "hey, I'm NOT killing the whole morning on a trip for a game today."

It feels a little weird knowing that an uncommon cab that I want is only a 3 hour investment away (travel both ways, loading, unloading) - plus cash, of course. It's kind of relaxing, though.

Hey, don't ask my wife about the Fred Flinstone's Memory Match game on the back porch that I took only because of the monitor. They last thing I need is her to yell at me...again... LOL

So basically, yes...I usually take everything I can get my grubby hands on. I have just a bag of buttons, switches, sticks, JAMMA harnesses, monitors, Mace the Dark Age board...crap I just took because it was free. No plans to do anything with them, just because "I might need them".

But I also understand your plight. Had a chance recently to go and pick up a couple "projects". A a generic shell, a Chase HQ cab, and an After Burner cockpit cabinet (missing pcbs, flightstick, but all motors and thing "I think" were there), among ther choices. An aquaintence was clearing out his wharehouse. They were free, but I just didn't want to make the 4 hour drive down, drive back, find a place for them, look for parts, put up with wife, etc...

I will buy every damn one I come across if it's in my price range and I have the cash .

Glad im moving next month to a bigger place.

My feelings, too. If I spot it, regardless if it's working or not, and I have the funds, I'm taking it home.

I've been doing that a lot lately... combination of being out of room and sorta lazy after moving a lot of 12 games and a TON of parts (which is part of the reason I'm out of room :p ). I've been avoiding looking for arcades, and even in not looking, I've seen pretty good deals on some good games, but I don't feel like screwing with them.

When I bought my Targ, the guy pointed to the side and said, "See that Alpine Ski? I'm looking to get it out of here. You want it?"

<not really wanting another game> "No thanks."

"I'll cut you a hell of a deal on it."

<still wrestling the first game into the truck> "Nah."

"Tell you want, $50 and it's yours. Works great."

<where would I put it? nah, the wife'd kill me if I brought home two> "Thanks, but I don't think so."

"$20?"

<holy crap, a working arcade machine for another $20? that's an awesome deal!> "Nope, thanks though."

"Well, if you change your mind, c'mon back."

And I drove off, leaving it behind. Just thought it'd be more trouble than it was worth. But I wonder...

Wow! That takes some determination... there's no way I could do that. Once I'm confronted about taking another game and given a good deal, there's no way I could turn it down. It's easy to pass on it when you see it online, but like whenever I go out to Coin-Op Warehouse, Lloyd always pushes more and more games off on me ;) . I went out there for one Ice Cold Beer (the game, not the drink :P ), and he ended up selling me two for a good price for one. I went out there for a Berzerk, he ended up selling me a Mouse Trap, Space Invaders, and Omega Race cockpit (and delivered them since my excuse for not buying them was no room in my van X_x ).

No, I already own that. It is for sale/trade, though.

Original Williams DEFENDER Arcade Game. Great Condition - very clean. Also have extra set of electronic boards and original manuals that I will include for free in full sale price. Game works great, only known issue is that vertical hold on the monitor is "touchy" and needs periodic adjustment. Have had in my basement arcade for past 10 years - very lightly used. See similar on ebay for $850 purchase price + $350 shipping ($1200). Buy here for $499. (770) 518-0442.
