Boy did I pick a perfect time to finally buy an Xbox. Xyanide kind snuck out of no where. Well stories normally dont matter when it comes to shmups so i am going to skip to the action. Maybe its just new to me but the game has one of the coolest control setups i've used since Ikaruga.
Basically you use the left stick on the Xbox controller for your movement (duh) but you point the right stick in and direction needed to shoot at a full 360 degrees. It reminds me of Gyruss but the movement and shooting is completely independeny on a 2d plane. i havent had time to delve real deep into it since i have some things to do but i will say i will be pounding away at it very soon.

Damn I was all excited until I saw that it's 3D. Looks cool, but I'm more of a 2D shmup man.

it plays more like a 2d shmup

I ordered a copy of it on Amazon, due to a lack of stores carrying it at the moment.
I'm really looking forward to a new shmup, even one with pseudo 3d like this one.

I am happy to see these types of games being made. Anyone know the retail price? Long live classic shooters!

A quick bit of research shows it at $20 USDs (ebgames.com). It also revealed that this isn't an Xbox exclusive: it's available on mobile phones as well as the GBA (perhaps of more interest to the 2D die-hards):

Looks interesting and out of the norm for an xbox.
I saw this a while back. It's nice anything interesting is coming out for Xbox this year. At least Gamecube owners have a title or two to look forward to before it dies.

I do want this for both GBA and Xbox.
Looks good.

Maybe I just can't tell from the screenshots. From the first shots I saw, it looked like a Panzer Dragoon-style shooter. But looking at the screenshots on the official site, it looks like a 2D shooter.
I'll have to find a movie.

Plus if you are ever hiding in a bunker and the russians are moving in you can bite down on the disc to end it all.

I heard about this a while ago, then forgot the name. Thanks for reminding me.

I just watched the movies over on IGN. Looks pretty cool. Unfortunately, not a single GS/EB within 50 miles of my house (and there are a LOT of stores within that radius) has a copy. So yeah the game looks cool, but not cool enough to bother ordering. If I could stop by GS on the way home I might have grabbed it.

I looked in a couple of places yesterday too and came up with nada. I'll probably make some phone calls today and make an actual order.

A few of the gamestops here got this game in, so I grabbed one earlier.
Haven't sunk much time into it, but once you get the hang of the weapon switching, the game gets pretty damn cool. I was having trouble not running into things, though-they fill that screen.
Also since it's not a popular title, it's real easy to get on the high score list on xbox live!
I am wondering how you use the custom soundtrack function. Anyone know yet?

What are the chances of finding this at Best Buy? Zero?

Sunk in a bit more time.
This game is HARD, harder than I thought it would be. You start with 3 credits and only get more when you break a million points. They do give you about 5 lives to start with, so you do last a while on a credit(with luck) but it's tricky as hell to aim and move at the same time.
Effective use of special weapons and missiles really is key to eliminating threats before they overwhelm you with numbers or fire, which they are quite prone to doing.
The music hasn't really struck much chord with me yet, but the custom soundtrack feature(under the ingame option menus) definitely makes up for it. Weird, but somehow right, to be shooting enemies to Pinataland.
Still not many scores on Xbox Live, but so far it looks like people have at least made it to level 4(of 6).
Also, this game is LONG. Expect each level to take over 10 minutes to get through, to say nothing of the boss fights. Length, challenge, and a lot to keep track of...this is a man's game.

You won't find this game at best buy for sure. I'd try game crazy or something like that. I remember seeing it reviewed on xplay when I happened to be watching it one day and it looked pretty trippy.
What's weird is I could have SWORN I saw someone playing this on my 360....Is it an arcade game? I don't think that one is compatible.

my eb had four copies, I picked one up, but haven't played yet, it reminds me a bit of ikaruga, but with a 3-d-ish, feel...
I would say its worth the 20 bucks

Sothy, i havent checked in with DP in over a year but you've still got it. You need to go on a comedy tour or something, maybe not considering they make next to nothing, but DEAR GOD WITH TALENT LIKE THAT YOU'RE PUTTING US ALL TO SHAME!!!

I played it and wanted to share my impressions. People should be aware that this is not a traditional scrolling shooter. It controls more like Robotron where the left joystick moves the ship and the right joystick shoots in any direction. I didn't bother looking at the manual yet, but it seems that holding "L" brings up an aiming cursor like in Panzer Dragoon/Rez. When an enemy in in the background then your shots will automatically shoot out of your plane of motion and towards it if you aim at it.
I am not a huge fan of this control scheme, although when I beat the first level after doing very poorly, I ended up with the 18th best score on Xbox live.

Man, If you are an old school shmup fan, you really shouldn't pass this one up! I remember seeing pics of this in gaming mags like two years ago, and it dropped off the map, and then out of nowhere it shows up at EB Games.
For all those worried that it's in 3D, it is only in-as-much as Silpheed (Sega CD and PS2) is, having a 3D backdrop and rolling camera, while keeping all of the true gameplay on a 2D Plane.
The best way to describe gameplay is that it's basically Geometry Wars (Robotron, Smash TV, Etc) with Shmup powerups, a rave-like backbeat, and trippy lighting and camera effects. And 2 player co-op! YAY!
Also facinating is a strangely developed story. The intro provides more production value than the majority of cinema in adventure games (earns a T-rating in spots) but it makes more sense when you read the backstory and know what Xyanide IS and what is occuring in the game.
Sorry to sound like an ad, but seriously, for $20 bucks and an already limited release, track this puppy down.

I don't think it works on the 360, as I don't expect an emulator has been written for it yet.
The idea of this game in 720p makes me drool a little.

Did this game finally come out? I remember seeing it on G4 a long time ago. I hit up all the game stores at least once a week for a while and none of them had even heard of it. So I finally gave up. DAMNIT!

The game is listed as in stock at the websites for EB, Gamestop, and Wal-Mart when I checked earlier today.
When I did a store search through EB's site the closest store to me that was going to get a copy was a 3 hour drive away.
I went ahead and ordered it through Wal-Mart's site but later got an email saying that they didn't actually have any in stock and were waiting to receive them.

OK, so it's TBA for the GBA in Europe, what about the US?

I went back to my local EB yesterday and asked about it this time. They only had two copies (and didn't bother putting 'em on the shelf), which is how I missed it the first time I looked.
I think this is the cheapest a brand new, in shrinkwrap game has ever cost me. $25 CAD plus tax (I think I paid $30 for Sonic Mega Collection)

Well, normally when you can play an Xbox game on a GBA, I'd say that's a bad thing. But from this thread, it looks like the game has promise, and it's certainly a breath of fresh air for the system late in it's lifespan. I wonder, though, if the success of Geometry Wars had something to do with this game being released on Xbox??

Dunno, the game certainly has been in development longer than Geometry Wars. It may have had something to do with them finally getting a publisher, though.
