View Full Version : what if Final Fantasy 7 was a PS3 launch title?

we've all (probably) seen the ff7 tech demo showcasing the ps3 capabilities, and we've all (probably) had at least a tiny bit of hope that that was more than just a tech demo, but instead a full-fledged remake. Now how cool would it be if that remake was a launch title? They would be selling those suckers like hotcakes covered in money and women. Hot women. Of course this is a long shot, and the ps3 will sell well anyway, but what if? Discuss! Or make fun, whatever.

Ok, this is gunna be a long one most likely.

FF7, extremely over-rated game..most over-rated game ever to me. Now, its not a terrible game I did play it through, but it lacks things. One for the playstation 1 even the graphics were lacking. They have done better with that system. Now I ahve no care in the world about graphics but I had to make that statement.

Next, the story isnt original at all actually. It is taken froma game released earlier for the ps1. Once they got the story they changed the names and added a more religious feel to it so-to-speak.

Another thing, the characters are not presented well at all. They never really get into them. The player never learns about them enough to feel for them or understand them. Lets go with Cloud. Cloud is a tough warrior who doesnt care for the government and only cares about himself. Hes a bad ass, only at the beginning, once you get going in the game randomly he becomes a softy for the girls and he starts caring for the others. Now this isnt bad, by all means its good, but they never explain why he starts caring. Nothing in the game is really life changing enough for that. Yes the whole Aeris dieing thing is sad, but we never really got to know who the hell she was. She was that flower girl in the beginning scene, thats basically what we know of her.

Now, dont get mad at me for explaining the game. I did play the game, the whole thing. And carlcarlson, I will not be buying the ps3 and sadly enough you are right. If they release a re made version of ff7 on the ps3 it will sell like...well "hotcakes."

So, no ps3 for me....only the Wii over here but I might not even get games for the Wii jsut get classics because nothing beats 2d games...NOTHING..2d is the best there is ever....sorry got off the subject..

I am buying a PS3 reguardless of whats comming out on launch day. If FF7 remake were to come out on launch day, that would just be the first game I would buy for the system. I actually liked FFX better than 7 but a remake would be sweet and would justify the purchase for me even more.

Would I pay $600+ so that I could pay another $60+ so that I could play a game that I've already played through before?

No, .... god no. That doesn't make me want a PS3 at all. If that moves systems, the world is dumber than I thought.

but that's the thing, FF7 wouldn't sell a ps3 for me but it's just one of those things

in the end it will be the games that will determine this generation

that will honestly be the factor for each system.

The whole "FF7 is overrated" thing is so old and has been done to death here. Let's move on shall we?

DON'T FUCKING GIVE THEM IDEAS!

Knowing Sony they have this in the works, selling that game with the system would ensure that all the fanboys would buy the thing!

I really don't care for the PS3, I just don't want Blu-Ray to become the dominant DVD standard. :P

yeah yeah like i dont want them to be that dominant over the media market , hd dvd looks better but sony just wants their format to be the dominant one.

And Microsoft (and all the other people behind HD-DVD) doesnt?

its a add on , its not like noone is forcing me to have to have a hd dvd ad on , its not built onto the 360 which boosts up the price of the console.

I dont know.. I think MS rushed the 360 out without the HD-DVD player to get a head start on the competiotion. I also think that they dropped the HD-DVD to save money or else the console would probly be $500 - $600.

In the future, wouldnt it be natural that all the games would be on HD-DVD? Then you are "forced" to buy a seperate HD-DVD player, unless they make a new model with one built in, which i think they will.

I'm seriously thinking that they'll release a version with the drive included but I doubt they'll release any HD DVD games. It would be like a 32X/Sega CD scenario, you'd need a costly add-on to play a few games.

The 360's successor (if any) will have a next-gen DVD drive, but that's a way off.

Ye, maybe. But wouldnt it be "stupid" to release a $250 (rumor price) addon just to play movies? Time will show :)

Considering standalone players are $500? Not in the slightest. :D

haha, i expected the "final fantasy 7 is overrated" opinion, but not the blu-ray/hd dvd debate. anyway, to get back on subject, I personally would never buy a $600 system to play this game, but I would buy a $100 system to play it! Give it a few years and I would love to play it through again. and to the fella saying it was overhyped, good points. in the end it all just comes down to opinion, and in my opinion it was quite enjoyable. carry on.

If a Final Fantasy VII remake came out on launch day, then my "wait until the PS3 is lowered to a decent price before buying the system" stance would be a heck of a lot harder to deal with.

Yes a FFVII remake would have me buying the console sooner than I intended too. Maybe even after the first price drop. :/

Depends on how good the remake was. It it possible for them to do a shitty job with the remake and ruin the game.

Assuming it was an awesome remake though I still wouldn't buy a PS3 at launch. $500 is just too much for a console alone for me, and I don't want Blu-Ray (right now).

No. A thousand times, no. I love FFVII but there is no way i'd purchase a $600 system just to play it again, even with beefed up visuals. It all comes back to price for me, and right now, the dang thing costs far too much money.

Not to turn all fanboyish on you, but what game were you playing? I guess the whole Aeris being an ancient thing, that took up a good amount of the games story, completely flew over your head. You also must have skimmed over the entire part about Cloud and Tifa's town, which gives a good amount of detail about both of them. The parts about how Red despised his father, Barret's guilt trip and Cait Siths secret must have slipped right by you. They even added detail about Yuffie and nobody gave a fuck about her at all.

Everyone already knows it's over-rated, it's been said for years and nobody cares, but saying that there was no detail about the characters is just blasphemy.

Also, what is this said game that the story was stolen from?

If this was true, I'd finally have a launch title to buy with my system. It would also be nice to see classic Tifa rendered with better technology!

Crazy. There really isn't anything wrong with Blu-Ray; in fact the future discs planned are going to be higher capacity than HD-DVD, and since they'll be using Microsoft's codec too...well, sheesh. Anyway, what's dogging Blu-Ray right now are shitty transfers (on first party Sony discs, at that!) and their insistence on marketing the hell outta it when they could've been putting that money into subsidizing, like the HD-DVD folks are doing.
