I came back from the flea market, and I saw this weird gadget over there. It looked like an N64, but the bottom half of it was bigger and it had a CDRW drive inside. o_O

I think the name was V64 or Z64 or something like that. I did some googling around and stumbled upon this page (http://z64.emedian.net/logo.php?id=copcd64), where it says that the thing was a copier... and it's odd, because the thing was being sold with an N64 with some sort of cart dongle on it. But some jerk got to it before I noticed it, and he tore off the N64 so the top part of the copier thing was damaged. (Edit) The N64 had a... DS1? thing stuck in the cart slot.

Does anyone know if this thing needs an external power supply? Or what these things are worth? I'm thinking of going back to buy it tomorrow since it seemed to be in okay condition, but I don't own an N64 ...

sounds like a copier for the n64, makes backups of games.

He left the thing behind. I saw that a few of the pins that plugged into the N64 were slightly bent and the plastic that surrounded that was gone.

Dude, don't tell me you've never heard of a Z64 before.

And the pins? Cripes, just straighten 'em out!

Okay, don't lock this yet.

Just because I deal with roms doesn't mean I know what copiers look like. Not to mention I've never liked the N64 due to several personal reasons - I never bought nor have ever owned one. Anyway, the pins were fine when I saw the thing, but the plastic surrounding the pins was GONE. You know how the pins are supposed to be protected by a black piece of plastic? If you've seen the NES connector where you plug in the carts, you know what I mean... Well, that was gone from the system. It may be repairable for all I know. But to be honest, it didn't look like it was possible.

Man, I can tell you that if I was the merchant, he'd pay whatever price I wanted or he'd have trouble walking away. If you know what I mean.

That would have been something awesome to have, even if your not into the 64. If I were you, I might have beaten him on pure principle.

I went back today and inspected it.

The item was totally trashed. The connector I meant? Well, it's more like the connector edge that game carts have. Part of the plastic holding the pins was gone, several pins were bent and at least one was torn off... not to mention it had a lot of grime and dirt on it. It was also the first model, which I read was pretty unreliable. So I decided not to get it.

Maybe I'll kick myself for this later, but whatever. :\

I found a CD64 (similar sort of back up unit, but form another company) at a thrift store for $7.99 and it was a 50% off day so I got it for like $4, so I still woulda had you beat!

For $5 you might as well pick it up if the seller still has it next week. It might be repaiarble and $5 isn't all that much to waste even if it's not.

The Z64 (which plugs into the top of the system and takes Zip disks instead of CDs) is a much cooler backup unit anyway, though.

And now, here's the pics I'm always looking for any opportunity at all to post!

Absolute quality. You get the award for pic of the week. Have a beer

Is that your own set-up?

Out of interest though, why is there an expansion connector on the botton of a DD64( I'm assuming that the CD64 is connected via the DD64)? What else (legal hardware) would there have been to connect under a DD?

Actually, the CD64 isn't really connected to the rest of the setup. The 64DD doesn't have the exp. connector, so it's just sort of resting on the CD64, not truly connected.

This *WAS* my set up, but I sold the CD64 a couple years ago. Sometimes I regret it, not because I ever used it (the Z64 is better), but because my N64 Tower is nowhere near as impressive without it.
