Anyone using Google Spreadsheets for their collection lists?

I was about to upload all of my collection inventories to Google Spreadsheets so that I don't have to wait until I get home to look at them (and determine if I possess something).

Anyone try using Google for their lists?

Any good? I never tried it. I usually just use Lotus (Excel).

It seems basic, but since it's online, I don't have to deal with posting them to the web, and I can access them anywhere with web. And I wouldn't have to move them around the computers in my house (basement, laptop, etc) with a flash drive or deal with networking them.

I started messing with this after reading your thread. I never new it existed. This is pretty cool and is sort of what I was looking for. If only it had more than 100 rows. My current spreadsheet has at 384 rows so I will no have to resort my categories and add worksheets. I'm going to play around with it and see if it works for me.

Why not just upload the Excel (or whatever) files to an e-mail account?

More limitations:

50000 cells and 20 worksheets. I've already divided one of my lists into two sets of less than 20 worksheets and now I'm not sure how to figure out the cells issues. I hope it's not counting empty cells? I believe it's smarter than that.

This could take a while. It would suck if I had to make individual files for each system rather than using worksheets.

There is a solution to the # of rows on one worksheet. You can select 10 rows (for example) and go to the insert button and choose the "10 rows above/below" choice. I stopped at the 400 rows I needed. You can do the same with columns.

This sounds like a lot of hassle to mess with the Google limitations for what you want. To make your Excel available online (I'm assuming it's while you're at work or something), just save it as HTML and load it into some crummy free web site like geocities just for your own use.

Or you could take the time to input your data into IGN "My Collection" or something similar.

I use it to keep track of my want list, and games I have for the select systems I have trouble remembering. It works well for these smaller lists, and come in handy when I am away from home.

The big downside is that you can't share it with anyone, unless you put their email address (gmail required I assume) in a list to approve them.

The joy of this, if I go through the trouble, is that I don't have to worry about being anywhere to modify the sheets. They are accessible from home (various computers), work, wherever. It will prevent me from redundant purchases and stuff.

I haven't messed with it since I discovered I couldn't just import my 2meg worksheets in. I may yet import each individually.

I need to get on there sometime and put some more lists on there. It just seemed so redudant and boring plus time consuming to find all the titles I wanted. Their search feature to add just takes so long. This is the type of reason why I try to stay away from databases located on websites instead just put everything in a TXT and update whenever you can. I try every several months to do an inventory check to be sure I have every game uploaded here and every game I own is still in my collection. It's sometimes hard to keep it all tracked and good.

You must being doing it wrong? Adding one game at a time? I "add games", then go through the system I need to add games for. "checking" the box next to every game I needed to add.

I added like 500 NES games to my collection profile over at RF Generation in under 5 minutes, by simply checking the boxes and uploading :hmm:

And I would looking into the google spread sheet, but who am I kidding? Like I want to do yet another spread sheet :P
(however this google thing does look promising)

Forget Google, use Gametz.com for your collection listing, it is soooo much better than the options listed here.

I use GameCollector. I can output my list to a .txt file which I can import onto my PSP using CNReader (text reader). Has limitations, but works for me...
