View Full Version : Sellers who don't send game due to low end price

I think it's happened to me. I will remain silent on seller/game due to privacy (for now, at least) but let's just say in late July I won a game complete for the stunningly low price of $25. This game usually goes for 50, or even up to $80.

I emailed him recently if he sent the game yet. His feedback is 100% and in the 100's, and he simply replied "I sent it last week. Sorry I always get a DC number but this time I simply forgot. If the game doesn't come next week, tell me and I'll refund you."

Sorry to be skeptical (sp?) but that to me sounds fishy and an excuse for the real reason behind it: he didn't like the end price, never sent game, will refund me the $25 in a week, hang onto the game, and resell it down the line.

Am I wrong for thinking that? I mean, it's been over 3 weeks now since the auction ended and I paypal'ed him. The game ended $30-$50 lower than it should have. He forgot to get a DC number. He's willing to refund me. etc. It just doesn't add up.

If you had a similar experience happen to you I'd like to hear it. I personally feel this is extremely shady -- to not follow through on a transaction. If you are that worried about a game ending below market value put a reserve on it. Bottom line, once it ends, you have to follow through. Otherwise eBay just isn't... well, eBay.

I've sold on Ebay and got stung on a low ending bid and you just eat it. As a seller you gotta know that there's potential for this to happen.

File a non-performance dispute. Neg him after the week has passed and he can't produce proof that he even shipped the item.

That'll show him.

Same think i would do.

Damn just reading this pisses me off, since i know how it is. I once bought a TIGER handheld LCD game, fair price. The 2nd higher bidder wanted to offer me 3 times the price i got it for, but i refused. I asked for the invoice from the seller, got it, payed up and all was fine. Some days later i get the money refunded. Apparently he had lost the game on the floor while packing it and it got destroyed haha  I told him to send it anyway, but he had already thrown it in the garbage and the garbagemen had picked it up

I told him that i spoke to the 2nd highest bidder (i even got his name) and told him that i knew he sold it to him. I didnt really know for sure, but i gambled. He said he had 2 copies of the game. Ye fucking right haha

So.. do as kitsune said. Fill out a complaint and neg him. The chances for something getting lost in the mail is small. So what are the odds that he suddently forget the DC for this package AND that it gets lost AND that hes that willing to give you the refund. Bullshit from the seller, dont fall for it.

as a short time ebay seller, i just set the minimum price i'd take for the game. since its nothing but saturn games i just go with a standard $5+shipping (real shipping, not overpriced bs). that way i dont have to worry about selling games for pennies.

most games i know will get bid up to their usual ebay values, some go for more, some go for less, but in the end it all works out.

the worst ebay experience was with one unnamed seller. i bought 4 games, sent him a MO, then he sent a msg that he up and left for vacation for an entire month. when he got back he said he recieved the MO and shipped the games. the sad part was after waiting 5-6 weeks, i got the games and saw the postage price was half of what i paid him for shipping. I think i paid 16 for shipping and it cost him $8.

thats just retarded, if i have a person buying more then 4-5 games i go get it quoted to give them exact shipping and maybe keep a buck or two for the box and packing material at most. when i ship it, if its more then what i quoted him, i eat it and if its less i'll refund it its its 3-4+ dollars then the quoted price.

Don't leave him feedback right away if he refunds your payment. Let him know though that you'll be watching his future auctions and that he should expect a neg (his first one) if you see him selling the game again any time soon. Hopefully it won't be worth it to him to ruin his 100% feedback and he'll miraculously find the game again and send it to you.

Dont even do that! get your refund and tell him that you understand and that you have already found another copy of the game so all is well... then watch his auctions! if he pops it back on in the next month or so then email him and tell him about the sting and you knew what he was upto and if he wont end the auction and sell it to you for the 25 dollars then you will neg him (you get 90 days to do so)

The trick is to be as crafty as them

Its happened to me at least 10 times! i remember seeing a mega drive and mega cd with about 30 games listed for £10 buy it now and i snapped it up within the first couple of minuites of it being put up for sale, i receive the invoice and pay and then a few hours later i get the money refunded and i check his auctions and he had relisted it for £30 and a big buyer/seller had bought it so i know straight away that the other guy wanted it to sell on for profit, anyhow when things like this happen no matter how bitter you are there is no point in negging him! you'll only end up get one on your own account

But saying that it may pop through your letter box in the morning!

If he didn't like the price he should have put a reserve or BIN on it. I've sold games in the past and didn't like the end price but sent them anyways. Was my fault for not setting a reserve.

Neg him after a week and file a complaint and get your money back.

You sir get the best post of the topic award, and there have been many. Thanks for all your helpful replies, and this is the route I'll go with. If it doesn't show up I'll merely let him know, he'll refund me and I'll watch his auctions. If it comes up again I will message him and ba-ding-ba-da-boom.

tornado as stated in my initial post I will not disclose the seller OR game right now, for privacy. I'll update in this topic as it follows.

Same as everyone else (those who say neg him if he relists it quickly), but also- if he was that bothered about the end price, ebay lets you set a reserve for a reason.

...ebay lets you set a reserve for a reason.

...Which will scare away/annoy all potential bidders. Reserve auctions (for items valued under ~$1000) almost always end poorly.

i won a game this morning at about 11am, paid about half of what i should (only 7.50 bucks for 15-20 dollar game)

the auction didnt have a shipping price nor one listed in the details.. anywhere

so i got an invoice this afternoon..

one sega saturn game 7.50
shipping for sega saturn game = 7

:( i msg'd him back and said it should cost 2.50 to send UPS ground, and i'll give him 4 for the trouble of it. havent heard back, but if he makes me pay it will definitely be neutral feedback if not negative depending on how he wants to act about it.

anything i can do about this or was it a stupid move on my part not asking about shipping first ? i never dreamed it would cost $7 to ship :(

always ask shipping first if it's not listed.. if you don't while it's wrong for him to do what he did you are at fault for your bid is a contract, essentially.

Always know all you can before you bid. Anyway, I bet he made shipping 7 to compensate for the game going under market value. Had it end around 15, I bet shipping would be $5

Yeah
I had the auction bookmarked and then last night realized it went off at 11 in the morning so i doubt i would've gotten a response. hopefully i'll hear from him tomorrow and can work this out. i'd rather not bite the bullet and pay it if i didnt have to, but its pay the price or take a neg i guess :(

Well, you said you won the game for 7.50, and that it's average rate is 15-20.

With $7 shipping you owe him $14.50.... maybe he is raping you a bit on S&H charges, look on the bright side you're STILL paying slightly under what the game goes for on average.

Considering YOUR SPECIFIC situation, where you didn't ask him in advance and he didn't have a figure listed, I say pay him and learn and move on.

There is no way you can ship anything UPS Ground for $2.50. First of all, if you're shipping to a home address there is a surcharge that is at least that much. Secondly, even if shipping to a business address there is a $4 minimum.

Ask him to ship it Mail, but it'll still likely cost around $4.

got a reply today, $4 shipping was fine..

and yes. it cost me 2.50 to ship a saturn game in a bubble envelope. its not gound its "parcel post" or something like that.

i actually recieved a game the other day in the same type envelope that i use and it cost the seller 2.55 to be exact.

im' glad everything is resolved though. whew :D

Usually if I win something for a low price I usually get raped on shipping. A few years back I won a game auction from Victor Ireland for $20. At the time they were going $60-$80 so he ended up charging me more than double what he originally quoted me for shipping. Also the game wasn't in as good condition as what he said it would be. I guess my point is Victor Ireland is a dick.
