I saw a Master System at the Thrift store, but it had no hookups/cables/etc. Are there any generic cables that will work with it, or will Genesis cables work (much in the same way as SNES/N64/Cube Video Out Cables did)?

the power brick, from the genesis MODEL 1 and AV should work, I know from experience that he genesis model 1 av works fine with the sms, and I am pretty sure the same is true of the power adapter as well.

The Master System can use the same AC adapter (#1602) as the Genesis Model 1 and Sega CD. It also uses the same A/V cables (#1605) or RF switch (#1603) from the Genesis 1. If you're unable to locate these, a NES RF switch can probably be used for TV hook-up, but I'm not sure about a replacement power supply (the output of the NES power supply is 9V AC, 1.3 A; SMS is 9V DC, 1A).

You can also use Genesis controllers as well, if it is just a bare SMS Power Base.

Radioshack and most other electronic stores have everything you'll need. Also you can run to thrift stores and rumage through their cords and poof, might find something.

NES Power Supply doesn't work that well on a SMS from what I've seen, best bet is the Model 1 Genny

I think it was $5. I can head back there tomorrow at lunch break.

Get it and get a Genesis 1 A/V cable and AC Adapter on eBay. Problem solved.
