I blew this evening with a buddy of mine reading through his old Game Players and GamePro magazines from 93-95. Lots of amusing and interesting stuff in there - including an ad for that Itchy and Scratchie game clearly showing a Genesis box... but that's hardly concrete evidence, given how much vaporware can be found in those magazines.
Speaking of which - the Video Jukebox for the Genny was advertised in just about every issue. In case you're wondering, it's a device much like those available for the 2600 - plug in six Genesis carts that can be played at the push of a button, like a jukebox. I've never been able to find one, see one online, or even ePay. I swear I saw them for sale in a Walmart several years ago, though. Were these actually produced and distributed? Does anyone have one? I want one, so I'd like to know!

i don't know if its called the jukebox, but i've seen a thing that holds a certain amount of genny carts and can be switched between. i remember a certain lowlife named pachuka auctioned one off a while ago, and i've seen another for auction after that.

Yet another auction I lost because I plain old, forgot. Argh.
I think the jukebox is a completely different item, because this item seemed more official and a kind of demo unit/M82 type item.
Never seen it before tho.

I'm pretty sure I'm thinking of the same thing you are. There was a company that planned to make a Video Jukebox for Genesis, Super Nintendo, and also for the Jaguar. I believe the company was called ASG Games. The Video Jukeboxes for the Genesis and SNES were advertised in the Radio Shack Special Order Catalog.
I called the compnay several times asking questions since I was eager to buy the Jaguar version. They told me that the Genny and SNES versions were done and being sold but the Jag version wasn't complete yet.
Here's another tid-bit. ASG games was also making a game called "Hosenose and Booger" which was being advertised long before "Boogerman". When I asked them about Interplay's game they all but came out and said that Interplay stole their idea. They said there was nothing they could do because as a small company, they didn't have the resources to fight Interplay. As we know, "Hosenose and Booger" never made it.

Well, my scanner is not handy at all right now, but here's a photo of one of the two different ads I've seen for this unit. The picture's kind of small, but it reminds of the first version Sega CD sitting under the Genesis as such.

At least it does show that the unit was made by ASG, and according to the cartridges in that guy's head, it was available at Software Etc, EB, Babbages, Best Buy, Venture, and "other locations."
And to be technical, that picture was taken from page 79, Game Players magazine, January 1995. Sonic vs Mario on the cover. And the game that got an 80% rating is Biker Mice From Mars for the SNES ; )

he probably wouldn't have shipped it anyway, and kept your money.
The jukebox in the ad looks completely different than the thing i was talking about, never seen one that looked like that.

I won a Sega Channel from him, and he sent it... go figure.
And yes, the device we saw up for auction is way different. It was side attached.
cheesystick: Heheh.
