I'd rather not just use maps to play through this game, but I recall warps and such in the dungeons.

I think I could map out my own maps using grid paper, but it could be a hell of a pain without a compass.

From what I remember there isn't a compass in the SMS version of Phantasy Star. Though it's been a while since I've played so I could be wrong.

There is a compass in SMS Phantasy Star - but it is used to get to the town in Eppi forest south of the cave where Odin is. With out it you cant enter the woods.

Well damn, then how did people map out everything back in the day?

I was doing fine untill i'd hit a warp, and then I can't keep making the map if I don't know where to start :-/

If you get crazed enough and frustrated because you have no idea where you're going (Old RPGs will do that to you) go here: http://www.crunkgames.com/?p=17&page=1 Its a great full guide with grid maps and everything that I used for Phantasy Star. I have the patience for some things, but old RPGs I just really don't have the patience to wander around for hours not knowing what to do next.

Looks great :) But after peeking at some of the maps, did I just imagine myself hitting a warp or something in Phantasy Star?

If there's nothing that will get me off track while mapping, i'll make my own maps for fun :)

you proably fell into one of the pittraps and fell to the lower level (the cat and geezer learn a spell that lets you fly over them if you know where they are)

I've always found that picking a wall and following it gets me through just about any dungeon. I've never been a map maker. It also seems to me that most PS traps are in the middle of the hallways, or at the very end of the hallways. Either way you can count the number of turns you take before you hit the trap, then once you get back up there have Myau cast the trap spell (or whatever the name of the disabling spell is) all the way down the hall until you disarm it. It's not the fastest way, but it does work.
