View Full Version : Anyone know of a old PC game review site with list of games?

Lately I've been getting into PC gaming again and the newer titles always lead me into playing the older ones (e.g. was just playing CivCity: Rome, and now I want go to play the original SimCity and Civilization games).

I notice for console games everything is very well documented with complete lists, etc. I was wondering if anyone had a similar thing for PC Games?

I know there are obviously more PC games than any console unit, but I've been using ign.com reviews to read about PC games, but their reviews only go until about 1998. Anyone know of something that goes back farther? Or even just a list of games would be cool. I googled a bit and looked in the links section from digitpress and didn't find what I was looking for.

Oh yeah and I really only care about windows/dos compatible games.

MobyGames (http://www.mobygames.com/home) is pretty much the best out there, but sadly all of the reviews are user submitted (and of varying quality, much like GameFAQs).

Really, really nice site though.

You'll probably never find a "complete" list, though. The nature of the PC gaming world pretty much renders it impossible.

Try gamespot. Their reviews don't go back very far, but they list alot of old PC games. That's where I get most of my info.

I wonder if it's possible to find Gamespot's old PC reviews (before they were Gamespot I forget what they were called) through the Wayback Machine. Also try the Daily Radar on the Wayback Machine, they had many PC reviews.

Gamespot has pretty much always been Gamespot. You are probably thinking of Games Domain, which got swallowed by Yahoo Games.

http://www.gamesdomain.co.uk is indeed in the Wayback machine, with much of its content, but as I recall you may have a hard time finding an actual index (since the site used Javascript-based menus that don't generally get archived).
