What is up with this resistor attached to it? It's an offical Nintendo brand I won off of Ebay for $14...and Im wondering what's the story behind it?

I have the exact same one. I assumed it was some sort of patch to repair a broken cable but it is in the exact same place on mine so I doubt it. I'm kinda curious what it is too.

It looks to me like a ferrite magnet used to help supress any unwanted signals. As far as how both of you have the same one in the same place, I don't know.

just looks like a ferrite ring to me... not sure

and this is the weirdest n64 controller:

It tracks the movement of your hand to act as the analog stick.

I love the Power Glove... it's so bad.

It look like an RF shield. It might be a controller from an N64 in store display. It helps keep the interferance down.

As said before, it looks like a ferrite magnet. I've not seen a N64 display unit since I was 12, but I'd think that there would be no reason to worry about interference. I'd rather think that if it was a display controller, the ferrite magnet is used to keep the controller from being pulled through the small hold in the display while still giving room to plug in the controller. Usually cables are wrapped in a circle in those devices and therefore any pull would pull on the device and not on the plug.

And that's what that is. I cracked one open years ago. From what I remeber, all PAL N64 pads had it.

Yep. It's a ferrite core around the cable to prevent any electrical feedback to the pad. European regulations require it which meant any N64 controller sold here had to have it.

Must cover all Euro pads then. UK PSone pads have this type of thingy too. I assume PStwo pads do too?

Strange - just checked an official UK GC pad, and a 3rd party GC pad and they don't have it. I suppose Xbox doesn't need it, as the cord detaches anyway.

Seems lefties still aren't bad enough.

I recently found a controller like that at the flea market..It looked unusual -weird..So I wanted to pick it up but the seller wanted $25.00 for it.. x_x

Correct. And yes European Cube pads don't seem to have them. I always thought it might be something to do with the rumble feature and earthing the controller in case something happened, but if the Euro Cube pad don't have one... unless that does it a different way to the Playstation pads.
