View Full Version : Gamecube System Settings Lost - Help

Hi,

I had some friends bring me a gamecube that won't save the system settings. My guess is that the battery is dead, but I replaced the internal battery and the same problem persists.

It's a little odd, because the Gamecube doesn't just say that the system settings need to be set (like if it was new out of the box) it recognizes that the system settings were once correct and that they are now lost. This would lead me to believe that there might actually be something else wrong.

I'm not the handiest with a soldering iron so I suppose it's possible I didn't do the best job or that I heated up the battery so much that I fried it, but both seem unlikely.

If anyone has had this problem and has any ideas on how to fix it I would appreciate it. And please spare any suggestions about sending the Gamecube into Nintendo for repair, you can almost buy a new one for the cost of repairs.

Thanks,

Wyatt

Perhaps the controller block itself is faulty. Does it recognize mem cards and controllers? In all ports?

They get cracked often, when a cube falls on it's face from a shelf or something.

The Gamecube is working fine otherwise. The memory card slots work but I have only tested player 1 thus far. I'm not really sure why the controller slots would affect the battery.

If anyone has any other ideas, that would be great. I had considered replacing the controller block actually, I just need to find one first.

Thanks,

Wyatt

Did you install the battery with the correct polarity?
