View Full Version : The DP Top 100 Worst Games List

Hey,
Instead of utilizing a ranking system like before for the worst games thread, in this go-around, everybody will be able to vote on which games they would like in the final list. How? Read on:
The list you see below was created from the ballots I recieved before when voting was opened. Using those lists, I created a master list where all the games were added equally, despite what ranking was placed when the list was initally created. I then added a point for each game that was in more than one list.
So, for example, E.T. is placed at +4. That means 5 people voted for E.T.; 1 to add it to the master list, and 4 people to add points for it.
This is where you come in. Using the list below, you can vote for which games you agree with, and they will get positive points. However, you can also vote on which games you disagree with, and they will get negative points. You can vote for/against as many games as you want to. I will keep editing this post to keep the current vote tabulation up-to-date.
Also, people who sent ballots before will be able to vote as well, but not for the games they initally put in their ballots.
(Hopefully that doesn't sound as confusing as it does in my head. :P )
Big thanks to Ed Oscuro, who suggested this current voting method.

Yeah, I don't know, there's an awful lot of those "everyone loves this game, so I'll say it's the worst game of all time just to be shocking" sorts of games listed in the base category.
It's also obvious that the upper categories are going to get skewed towards the famous bad games like E.T. and 2600 Pacman, which are definitely not actually the worst games in history, it's just that those are the ones everyone thinks of.
I'd say that to come up with a good list you'd have to eliminate both of those categories somehow. You could just use your judgement and take off any games you think people mentioned just to be contrarian. I don't know how you could handle the infamous category of games, but I definitely don't think it's fair that the 2600 verison of Pacman will end up probably in the top five when there's easily hundreds of games that have been much worse.

That must be "A Week of Garfield" on the Famicom. It does suck pretty bad.

That one was ok. Garfield played worse on the Genesis than it did the Famicon. The one on the Genesis was a cheap ripoff of Gex or a couple of the Addams Family games, complete with the same style of gameplay and even similar stages.

Yeah, I don't know, there's an awful lot of those "everyone loves this game, so I'll say it's the worst game of all time just to be shocking" sorts of games listed in the base category.
That's why you can vote on the list - vote to knock a game off the list.
Take E.T. - five people put it on their list so five DPers agree that it belongs on a "worst games of all time" list. If five people don't think it belongs there, well, it'll be knocked off.
I shouldn't encourage piracy, but please folks, take a look at some of the obscure entries and knock off those you think are likable (I hope nobody disagrees with me on Route 16-Turbo, though).
I guess this gives me a reason to play Dash Galaxy on my NES (it's a game that I bought from Orrimarko)...
I hope it works out to everybody's liking.

Please note that we (or more accurately, I) am not taking any new entries at this time. I will only add more games once the = glut has been brought down to a more sizeable level. Thank you.

Got a minus for Shaq Fu. Screw you all, I like that game!
Another minus for Mr. Do. How it even made it into consideration for this list is beyond me.
Lemme see... another minus for Ski or Die. The snowboarding halfpipe event was sweet!
Hmm... anymore minuses I need to hand out? Oh yeah, Sonic Adventure gets a minus. It was pretty exhilarating when I played it. Heck, it still is.

Meant to post this six hours ago, but DP was down at the time :(
I disagree with these choices (I disagree with others as well but I'm only listing games I've played, which is the only honest thing to do):
Platoon (NES)
Actraiser 2 (SNES)
Adventures Of Bayou Billy, The (NES)
Bad Dudes (NES)
Cybercop (Sega Genesis)
Ironsword (NES)
Jim Power (SNES)
Magmax (NES)

Sigma Star Saga (GBA)
Turok 2 (N64)
Castlevania II (NES)
Yes, I ended up playing Dash Galaxy for a bit. It's terrible and boring, but I'm not sure if it really is one of THE WORST games EVER. However, I was bored the entire time I played it, so it's not getting redeemed from this list anytime soon.
Same for Captain Silver...not too good. It looks great, but there's little playability. Also, that damn fountain.
Cyebrcop is kinda shaky. I've only played it on an emulator for a bit, and while it wasn't amazing fun I didn't think it was that bad. Mostly just different and slow. It's no Zero Tolerance, but there's a certain charm about the game. The premise is gold, too (kinda like Aliens meets Blade Runner with maybe a dash of The Syndicate thrown in - not sure which game was first, there).
whaaat is this, there are some great games in that "worst games" list.
Then neg them per the instructions! Also try reading.

First the pluses:
Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle NES, SNES, Gameboy(add that to your list of really piss poor games)
Rise of the Robots (SNES, Genesis)
Alf (SMS)- just not even worth describing, truly awful
Then came the Minuses:
Metroid 2 (Gameboy)
Mr. Do (why oh why is poor Mr. Do in an awful list?)
Adventures of Bayou Billy (NES)- owned this game years ago, thought it was bad, recently replayed it, liked it once more
Castlevania Adventure (GB) hard as nails, great music, yes a little slow, and jumps are tricky, but it's classic in my book

Huh?:
Altered Beast (NES)
Lion King (NES)
NHL Stanley Cup (NES)
Altered Beast was released for the Famicom under the name Jyuouki: Altered Beast.
Lion King was released for the NES, but only in Europe.
NHL Stanley Cup is for SNES, not NES. My mistake.
I've gone ahead and made changes accordingly.
If things get a lot of minuses are they just going to get dropped off the list?
Indeed. If they go past -3, they will dropped off. In fact, Castlevania II, Chrono Cross, Dragon Warrior, Metroid II: Return Of Samus, Mr. Do!, Sonic Adventure (1 and 2), Super Mario 64, and Turok 2 have been removed permanently.
Also, if a game goes past +5, it will also be removed, and added to a permanent list. Right now, only E.T. is on there.
also i dont understand, if we + something it makes it better and - something means its worse?
+ means that you agree that it's a bad game, - means you disagree.

Updated!
Well then, I want to put down NHL Stanley Cup for a minus 1. The mode 7 was pretty cool and it was one of my favorite sports titles on the SNES.

Ok,
I am going to list the first one on the top of my head. Will add other later
DOOM (SNES) Sheesh, that has to be up there as one of the worst SNES games ever. If not the worst. I have seen better graphics on a Pentium 1.

In fact, Castlevania II, Chrono Cross, Dragon Warrior, Metroid II: Return Of Samus, Mr. Do!, Sonic Adventure (1 and 2), Super Mario 64, and Turok 2 have been removed permanently.
Sweet! Now us Sewer Shark fans have to band together, there's WAY worse games then that. :D

Another minus for Mr. Do. How it even made it into consideration for this list is beyond me.
/me waves
I think it was top (bottom??) 5 on my list...I absolutely despise that game.
Wow. Some of the people that voted really need to play more video games, especially if Mario 64 and Mr. Do! are 2 of the worst games you've ever played.
/me waves again
Both of those were on my list. :D
I haven't voted on any games yet:
+1 - closer to doom:
Alex Kidd In High Tech World (Sega Master System)
Captain Planet (NES)
Hang-On GP (Saturn)
Platoon (NES)
-1 - closer to safety:
John Elway's Quarterback (NES)
10- Yard Fight (NES)

Jet Moto 2 (PSX)

Of course you have, Doom was originally made to run on a 486 (and is runnable on a 386). ;)

Hmmmmm...... you may have a point.
But, I think the PC version. What ever x86 it came out for was better looking than the SNES version. LOL

As long as you get the controls down, shoot enough things in each section, and...like shooters and shooting stuff, you shouldn't have a problem. Also, if you like strategy games and RPGs, try and track down Dark Wizard and Vay respectively. The Sega CD had a few gems on it. 8-)

I tried out Sewer Shark and thought it was kind of fun. Put me down for a -1 on Sewer Shark.
For anyone disputing this, my Ebay feedback link includes a link to the recent auction where I won a Sega CD, so I legitimately played it. It showed up last week and I already had Sewer Shark from a previous DP trade.

For someone who's part Sicilian, my skin's so pale I may as well be transparent.
There were a few I hadn't played before posting, but I put some time into them via emulation/playing at a friend's place before voting one way or the other. The unbelievable thing isn't that I played all of them, but that I actually know someone who owns a CDi around here.

This poll hasn't been "abandoned". It's simply an on-going process. Much like the DP Top 20 Dreamcast/SNES/Neo-Geo/whathaveyou lists, people vote on what they want to include/not include. It goes back and forth. There's never a time where the list stays "static" (unless it lies dormant for a few months). If you really want to know the Top 100 or whatever, simply start at the top and countdown until you get to 100. Simple! :)
Besides, I haven't been able to update the list recently anyways because of the disabled edit function.

I am going to request to put DBZ Sagas for the XBOX on the list because I am not a big fan of DBZ but I know they have the ability to make a good game. Sagas however was far from a good game and had a ridiculous amount of glitches that prevented me from enjoying even a little bit.
