So the box finally came in the mail...

Pretty cool! I especially like the picture of Mario dressed as a cowboy, and the one where he looks drunk. This is the Sharp X1 version, but I assume the PC-8801 box is identical.

It came with a manual too, but there aren't any interesting pictures in it.

If you can, I'd still like to see some good scans of the manual to read what it has to say.

Anyone get past world 4 in any versions of this yet?

Have any other versions been dumped besides the one in that thread?

I'll scan it in, it might be interesting if somebody can translate the Japanese.

Also, judging from the pictures it seems to imply that the PC-88 supports a joystick. I know there's two different joystick interfaces for the PC-88, one is Atari or MSX compatible (I'm not sure which, both work but no games I have use the second button), and the other kind is proprietary, which definitely has more than one button. I assume you'd need at least 2 buttons to make SMBS worth playing.

Finally scanned in a page from the manual. Can anybody here read enough Japanese to tell me how to use a Joystick with the game? It seems to imply you can, at least on the PC-88

Wow! That cover art is wonderful! Thanks so much for posting it. And Rob... great work with the translation as usual.

I'd love to have a super-high resolution scan so that I can print out the front and frame it. I'm not kidding! I have my original Super Mario World map framed, along with many other Mario-related things, and this would make an amazing addition!

So if you get a chance, an even cleaner scan would be much appreciated.

Thanks for the translation! So that means... uh, that you can use an X1 or PC-88 joypad on a PC-8801 (but not a mk2)? I guess that means there's no joystick support in the X1 version, which is really odd.

I've got a 1954x1284 scan of it, but I think I might have an even larger one somewhere. If I don't, I'll just post that one.

No problem. I believe you can use a X1 or PC-8801 joypad on the X1 is what they are saying. Should be fine. All they appear to be saying, as far as I can tell is that you can't use a PC-8801mkII joypad.

Ah, that makes sense. Because the PC-88 and 8801mkII both have a "normal" MSX style joystick port (same as the X1), but the mkII also has a special joystick port that has like 10 pins in it.

Here's a higher res scan of the cover:

Just noticed those screenshots onthe back of the box are like at least 16:9 ratio. LOL

They either patched two screens together and doctored the score display and stuff to fit across both, or they stretched it. Nothing looks distorted though, so it doesn't look stretched at all.
