At this point, I'd say we're more likely to see real pig cops flying about the neighborhood than we are to see DNF released.
(also, funny movie from the end of DNF...made two years ago. Link (http://newgrounds.com/portal/view/206621))

There must be some other racing fans here.

This is one thing that makes me shudder about games in general.
SO MUCH work is done on games that never sees the light of day, and yet a lot of interesting inferences could be drawn from this unreleased artistry and code. Unreleased games (such as 3D Realms' other epic wait game Prey, obviously) have had an effect on the industry. I don't have any basis to make a general estimate, but in the case of DNF they have evidently have enough assets to start a game on every 3D platform made since 1995.

That's really bad news to hear. At this point, even if it is released, I wonder how good it will be anyway. I'd kinda rather it be shelved then become another Daikatana.

No, that joke was beaten into the ground years ago.
Also, that article is about the most sensationalist thing I've seen on the front page of that site since the Kraziness of Ken Kutaragi article (http://www.shacknews.com/extras/kutaragi/070705_kutaragi_01.x) from the previous LNC writer.

Well here's GeorgeB's reply: (http://www.shacknews.com/ja.zz?id=12779001)
"Physics and animation systems are virtually finished and shippable. It's simply maintenance and polish from here on out. We haven't needed to make substantial changes to those systems in months. The changes we have made, were made without great effort. Things are never as bleak as they appear, as is often the case when you simply have one side of the story.
I'm glad to see that Shack is now a major investigative new source. I alone, have secret insider info on half the developers in the industry and their secret unannounced projects, their departures, layoffs and other internal politics. If you really want to open up the site to being the next BitchX or FatBabies, it shouldn't be too hard to solicit reputable sources (anon developers or their friends) to provide you with all the information you need. It's all 'news' :)"

Through the whole video I was trying so hard to figure out wheree I heard that song. It is familiar. Like I had heard it before. I KNEW where I heard it before. I love the damn song.
Uncle Jessie (John Stamos) and the Beach Boys! From that episode where they make that video with all the candles! It's ingrained in my brain. WHERE CAN I DOWNLOAD THAT VERSION? It sounds so much better than the non Jessie version! (Nevermind. Found it. P2P software rocks for those songs you just can't get on iTunes.)
Also, damn that's a great video. But why does it say 2004? What happened in 2004 DN4 related?

Ever since 2001 or whatever when they had that full on trailer for DNF and said it was practically done, but insted decided to redo it AGAIN, I finally gave up hope on DNF. I seriously doubt this game will ever be released especially after the doom 3/quake 4 flop. I do find it ironic that it's called DNF, I'm starting to think it's one big joke by 3d realms to keep people interested in their company, otherwise they would have been belly up long ago.

You don't really think they were all made by 3D Realms, do you? Duke 3D was the last game developed in-house at 3DR. They have had key (I guess) roles with the new games, i.e. inviting over the radio guy to record new lines for Duke, and administrative stuff...besides all that it's really a mystery what they've been doing if not working on DNF all this time.
Anyway, the newest comments I've seen suggest the game is wrapping up, though the number of employees who've left seems to signal that they were fed up with the way the place was run.

I think it's more likely that it a mix between:
a) Their roles are becoming less important to the development of the game as their portions become more complete
and
b) They've been working at the same company for years and have not shipped a game. It's never a good thing to have a resume with a whole lot of nothing on it.

Jeeze. They should have just released it like that. I mean, that was awesome back then and now. But noooo. They want perfection. The top of the line. So they keep restarting because they need it to be "perfect". But when another game comes out that does it better than what they've been working on they decide "Well, time to start again.. MUST BEAT THE OTHER GUYS!!!"

I stopped believing this game was actually coming out years ago. However here's some of my favorite quotes from way back:
"We're confident that DNF will be one of the greatest, if not the greatest, game of 1998. And this confidence is not misplaced." - Scott Miller, 1997
"Duke Nukem Forever is a 1999 game and we think that timeframe matches very well with what we have planned for the game." - George Broussard, 1998
"Trust us, Duke Nukem Forever will rock when it comes out next year." - Joe Siegler, 1999
"When it's done in 2001." - 2000 Christmas card
"DNF will come out before Unreal 2." - George Broussard, 2001
"If DNF is not out in 2001, something's very wrong." - George Broussard, 2001
"DNF will come out before Doom 3." - George Broussard, 2002

They might as well just save face, admit they pulled a Charlie Gordon, scrap this abomination and then dump ALL of the old Duke Nukem titles into one collection and call that Duke Nukem Forever.
Just go the Sonic, Street Fighter, Sega Collection, Namco Museum, etc. route. As for what to do with all the "work" they actually completed on this thing, toss it in there as an unlockable bonus or lump it together into something semi-playable and put it on as an "unreleased" Duke Nukem game or "extra levels." Simple as that and you have something that would be completed fairly soon and might actually sell a few copies.

Found this thing back from the dead by accident. Anyway, what's with plastic Duke holding an even more obviously plastic (okay, it's the blur) gun?
Anyway...yay Duke? Oh well. They brought Prey back, and that got decent marks. I haven't invested anything in Duke emotionally, so they can take another twenty years with it for all I care. There'll be other games. Would be nice to have a new entry though, if only for old times' sake ;)

I found this very interesting. From an interview from George Broussard:
"Looks like we’re at 29 now, and we’ll probably be bringing on 1-2 more guys to help with Duke Nukem Forever in the near future. We like to keep it pretty lean and mean though. Once you get too many people, you lose the ability to communicate with them all directly and the place loses it’s personality. People start to feel more like “tools” than key employees and I don’t like the thought of that."
AND
"Our typical schedule is 10 hour days arriving no later than noon. Most guys work 12+ hours a day and some weekend time as well. We all just love what we do, and if we’re not home, we’re at the office. It’s not like work. People that wanted to work 8 hour days and no weekends have come and gone through this company. This is a company of die-hards that live and breathe gaming. I never hardly have to ask anyone to work more. They just do by default."
I guess the team wasn't 'die-hard enough.'

Some of those levels in LameDuke were cooler than in the released game....there was a cool city level and I think th other standout was the oil tanker level. It's a shame the levels couldn't be ported. :(
I also used the jetpack sounds from LameDuke in Duke3D.

The oil tanker was used in the Atomic Edition on the ship level in the last episode (the last mission before the final boss? Don't remember, it was a long time ago)
If you touch the ground in the city level, the game crashes (actually the game crashes any time you look at the ground). Hit the jetpack button as soon as the level starts and you can fly around.
For best compatibility, go into the setup program and completely disable sound. That'll at least get it up and running...

There wasn't a whole lot of sound in the game to begin with.
I remember the "stripper" music being better too...but there were no actual strippers in the game.
I also seem to recall a level where you were on the top of a building and there was a "ship" flying around you. Alot of those early levels were bad, but there were some that were damn good.
I always liked city levels....much better than those vague levels in Doom.

It'd be even greater if the game came out and Duke wasn't a playable character for most of the game. Maybe he gets kidnapped in the first 10 minutes and you spend the rest of the game playing as someone else who has to rescue him.
