This game looks simply badass. I'm glad it's coming to the 360, though. At least I'll get to play it even though I'm not getting a PS3. LOL

The money wasn't to keep the game exclusive at all. Astute followers will remember that it was originally announced as an XBox 360 title. Then for its E3 debut it was only mentioned as a PS3 main game despite the E3 demo being played on 360 controllers (and most likely on 360s).
Game development costs are insane now. Most third parties simply cannot afford to make a console exclusive, instead needing to get the game on as many platforms as possible (you can see Resident Evil 4 and Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories as major examples of this).
So Ubisoft/Sony started something new here, rather than the GAME being exclusive to one system, they bought "marketing exclusivity" until September 1st. So officially it would always be hyped/advertised as a PS3 title even though this is Ubisoft which means I'll be pre-ordering the game for the N64 Disk Drive in about a week.
Why September 1st? I assume the arrangements were made when the PS3 was still supposed to come out in the spring and when "Project Assassin" was scheduled to ship in October.
Anyways it's going to be out on the PS3/360/PC, not a huge surprised at all. I don't expect to see many third party exclusives this generation outside of Japanese RPGs for the PS3. First party software will determine who "wins" this generation.
