You linked to page 2 of the article just so others that read up know (in advanced I hope).
Seems like a cool guy. There's not too much I'd have in common with him due to being the 1984 and earlier kind of dude. It's people like this that make other gamers reach out and want to go far in their hobby and see where they can go and a way to involve it with everyday life. I may not like video games 20yrs down the road from now, never know, could get sick of them. Until then though, when I move out I plan on having a dedicated game room that looks nice and may eventually expand to a new structure detached from the house or added on if it goes that far.
Know of him from the arcade game collecting newsgroup (where he frequenly posts).

I donīt hear about him.
But i visited his website.
His collection is very cool:
He realized the dream of several gamers:
Had a private Arcade Room.
Who never dream one time in his life to own a private arcade room with his favorites games?
I dreamed one time to own a private arcade room with the Sega, Capcom, Konami, Tatio, Technos and SNK arcade systems.

Peter gave Julie a vintage Tempest machine for their first anniversary, and, she said in an e-mail this week, she still considers that to be the best present ever; her initials top the game's high-score list.
Awesome!
I'm right w/ him on the arcade fighting games- never held much interest in those.
"Hirschberg has never seen an episode of "American Idol" or "Survivor" and doesn't know what "The Sopranos" is about."
??? How can you NOT know that? I mightve watched a single "Sopranos" episode in my life (read: not a fan) but you cant help knowing what it's about...is that just to show how "removed" he is from society/pop culture?

Yes.
To me, somebody who totally lives in the past is kind of disturbed. I have no problems favoring one time period in tv, games, in general, over another, but to have no knowledge of any other is kind of weird.
I guess that's why I like hanging out here at DP so much. Most of us have a "decidedly retro edge", but we can still discuss and appreciate pop culture in all its forms from any era.
