View Full Version : VOTE by 12pm EST MONDAY for EBAY INSANITY CONTEST!

First and most importantly, you'll probably want to bookmark this page:
http://www.digitpress.com/archives/ebay/
With over 40 auctions, we'll do something like what we did last year to narrow it down to the real contenders, then put it to a public poll.
If you haven't done so already, NOW is the time to vote!
To become a finalist, here's what you need to do:
1) Set up a thread in the eBay Insanity forum specifically for your auction. If you've got multiple entries, you should set up multiple threads. The post should contain a POLL with just one voting option in it, allowing members to "choose you" as a finalist. In the post you might also want to give some background as to how you came up with the idea - and feel free to add any interesting side stories that have come about, like eBay pulling your auction or someone emailing you about it, or even places on other forums where they're talking about it!
2) Email the link to me at digitalpress@email.com - please include the name of the auction. Once I have that, I will add a link to your thread so people can vote on it from the link above.
3) In a week (perhaps a bit longer if there are lots of ties) I'll look over the auction voting and choose no more than 10 finalists. I'm going to get some "outside help" to judge in close calls. The result will be primarily based on your voting!
4) A poll will go up immediately afterwards for everyone to choose THEIR FAVORITE, and again we'll give it about a week until a clear winner has emerged.
NOTE!-There will be prizes for first, second, and third place!
-If you make a 64x64 pixel picture I'll use it as the picture on the page above, just like eBay.
-If you have a link to your homepage, send that along as well, as you may have noticed there are a lot of links on the page above that don't actually "work".
Good luck to all, and GAME ON! :rocker: :monkey: *_*

I couldn't set up just one option in teh Poll, it said it MUST contain two. I just put a yes/no. Is that ok?

If you're having problems with your poll:
1) First start a new post, I'd recommend making it something that stands out.
2) At the bottom of the screen you'll see "poll option" and "answers". Make the topic something like "My auction should be a finalist!"
3) Make the first option "Yes", click "add option", then when the screen refreshes add a second option "No" (the forum will force you to enter two options).
4) After you've done that, double-check that it looks the way you want. You can edit your post if you need to (the edit button is in the upper right of your original post).
5) Remember to let me know where your thread is so I can link you to the main contest page (above).

Has anyone noticed that some one is marking "no" on all the threads. Do the no's count against us Joe?

Nope - NO's don't hurt you one bit. We'll judge on the number of YES votes.

Ok its early, and I must have brain fog, but what link do you want emailed to you, the thread setup in the eBay insanity forum?

Yeah. I want the forum link where people can vote for YOUR auction.
BTW I got a whole bunch from people today but don't have access to FTP - any entries I received today that do NOT appear linked on the main page listed above - you'll be linked later today ('round 5pm EST).
If you haven't set up a voting poll for your auction, get to it! I've started promoting that page and by tomorrow everyone and his brother will know about it. So chop chop!

Quick question.
Is the order of the ebay page with all the auctions on it in the order people entered? I wanted to vote on one but it was similar to auction further up the list, just with diff desc.
Just want to give credit where credit is due.

I do have to comment that having our entries in the Insanity Forum (at least in my opinion) kind of sucks. They just kind of get mixed with other insanity posts, and eventually get weeded to the second page...which nobody seems to look at anyway. Hence, no more votes. I really think that these should have been set up in a different arena, perhaps a special forum of their own, or perhaps a special voting page. Just my opinion...

Check the link at the top of this thread. DP has set up a special voting page that mimics an Ebay page for this contest. It takes you right to the voting thread for each auction. Now if we wanted to generate more votes, perhaps a link to the voting page on the home page next to Janice's picture ;) might do the trick!

YES! Good idea! I really think if more people were to view this voting page it would make a world of difference. Linking it to the main page is actually a great and simple idea. What do yah say Joe?

It IS linked to the main page! It's also been publicized at about a dozen other gaming boards, and before the contest is over, it will go out to everyone on these forums again as well as my electronic mailing list for DP (about 1000 addresses).
Fear not. All shall see the auctions.
Also I was hoping to get responses from all of the entrants with a poll to link back to that auction page but a few haven't done that yet.
Re: the order of that page: YES, I constructed the page AS the entries were coming in - they're in order of submission.

At 12pm on Monday (3/17) I'm going to lock the voting booth and pull the top ten from the list. Though I trust everyone involved in this contest, if you've cheated, I will know.
I'll set up a new thread here with a poll, and we'll choose the winner from the finalists. There will be three prizes, I'll explain how the voting and pirzes work later.
But for now, if you have not voted YES for your favorites, do it NOW!

Umm, it's not cheating to vote for yourself ONCE, is it? I did... :/ Sorry. If it wasn't kosher, feel free to knock me down one.

No, that's not cheating. Cheating is creating false accounts and voting with them.
